Default Spirit elite 2.5m mod

I'm looking stepping up to a full house glider (ailerons, elevator, rudder, and flaps) next summer and i really like the spirit elite. I was thinking of building the kit and extending the wing to 2.5m-2.8m. I would also enlarge the controls so they will run the full span of the wing. Is this possible to do without destorying the flight performance? I like the larger span models as the tend to float and thermal better, thats the main reason I want to make the wing bigger. Any comments?

There's nothing wrong with the Spirit Elite as it is.
It's optimized for the size.
Get a larger plane... Spirit 100. or something like that.

You can probably stretch the wing to 2.5 meters but with the stock tail and fuselage that's about as far as I would want to go with it. Beyond that the tail and moment arms will be too short to dampen the wing's forces in an efficient manner. If you want a larger model, and larger does indeed fly better, then go for a properly designed larger model in the first place. From there just pick the model that has the style of flying you want.

As for the controls I'm not sure what you mean by "full span". With gliders the ailerons are on the outer portion of the wings with flaps on the inner portions. So control surfaces already take up the whole span. If you're thinking flaperons then I can say with conviction "FORGET IT! THEY DON'T WORK". Tried it twice with terrible results.

Bruce, the Spirit Elite has both flaps and ailerons. Crow is feasible, and mentioned in the instructions.
I built mine without either, wanting only to bore holes in the sky, with the option of electric power.
It does that well.
