Dream Flight Alula
Hi all. I was considering purchasing one of these little buggers. Has anybody flown one or own(ed) one? I dont want to waste my money (only $45, but still). It looks like it would be a fun little SAL glider that I could fly in front of my house or take to the slope. The looks of it are great, but I would like some actual customers who arent biased towards Dream Flight to give me some opinion. Thanks a bunch!![8D]

RE: Dream Flight Alula
I absolutely love my Alula!!!
It will fly in the lightest lift; usually I'm still flying, even doing aerobatics and inverted flight when noone else can even stay up. I enjoy flying this one as much as my Weasel Pro. It's my take-everywhere plane, the vertical stabilizer is easily removed so that the whole thing can be packed flat.
It went together extremely quickly; it could easily be built in an afternoon, I did it in about two days. The building instructions are incredibly complete and easy to follow and the kit is amazingly complete. You'll need only the CA glue, a bit of epoxy, hot glue, 3M 77, tape for covering, hinge tape, and your radio gear. I used just a tiny bit of watered down craft paint(Wal-Mart, 39 cents/bottle); pushrods and related hardware are included in the box. Be sure to order the lightweight clear tape from flyweasel.com. With this setup, mine came out to 4.2 ounces with only 3 grams of lead in the nose.
You will need micro-sized gear and a transmitter with elevon mixing and elevator dual rates or ATV. I'm using a Plantraco DSP-4 receiver (non-esc version, most people use the Berg-4 or GWS Pico), a 170mAh 1/3AAA battery pack, and two GWS pico servos. Even the Pico servos were a bit large for it, but I was eventually able to shoehorn them into the Alula.
Without reservation, I can say it's definitely worth every penny!!!

Hiya.
The elevator has a minimal amount of movement.........very sensitive !, aileron control is just nice though.
Can't wait until my Weasel Pro comes !

much appreciated Slope Flyer UK

The Rx is fairly new, and works in a similar way to PCM. If the signal is lost, the IC remembers the last good signal and locks to it, until the signal returns !. I've used a number of small Rx's in micro gliders.......and these ones haven't played up, so far.

RE: Dream Flight Alula
The Purple one was covered in purple packing tape, and day-glo solartrim !!.
The Blue one was bought on eBay last year, and came as you see it.........apart from the SWM sticker.
Build and cover carefully, don't rush it.....
As for colours, its totally up to what you want.........
I'm intending to do my Weasel Pro, in the colours of a Red Ladybird !!

RE: Dream Flight Alula
hello, me and my dad have had our alulas in the air for the last few weeks i think and they are absolutly lovely to fly its like a whole different type of flying, we took them up the slope today, didn't think that there would be enough wind for them at all, the tiniest of a breeze ever so we went up there gave them there first maiden at a slope (for the last week or so we have been in the park hand launching) and off they went absolutly beautiful, you can go slow, fast, do tricks...... like i said a whole different type of flying, there were a few cows on the field in front of us and we was just buzzing over the top of there heads
if your looking at getting one of these then its a must !!!

RE: Dream Flight Alula
Hey guys, i'm interested in making a really big alula. (well, not too big.) I am not trying to make an exact copy of the Alula, and I won't even call it an Alula. I was just wondering if some of you guys could give me some basic measurements about the aircraft.
1. Root cord
2. Tip cord
3. Amount of sweep (in inches)
4. Tail surface length(along the carbon spar)
I will be multiplying these dimensions roughly be two, and then figuring out how I'm going to put it together. I will not in any way be trying to sell this plane, and all of the design credit will go to Richter. (@dream-flight.com)
Okay, enough about copyright infringement.
I plan on hot wire cutting the wings out of pink extruded foam insulation. This foam is generally a lot stiffer than the more common blucor material.
This plane will most likely be launched DLG style, and to make it strong enough, i will be giving the leading edge a nice 3/4oz glass treatment, and i will just leave the trailing edge alone to save on some weight. I also plan on doing the common mod to use separate aileron and elevator controls, and I will be increasing the dihedral quite a bit so that i can make the back half of the vertical stabilizer into a rudder. I will have 4 micro servos in the plane to allow for this, but i don't think the extra weight will be a problem with a 50-60 inch dlg aircraft. The throwing peg will be mounted in a hard point, and will be airfoiled as is expected.
Thank you my friends, and i will post pictures of my progress as soon as i get dimensions.
