fly's very easy, lands easy, my two girls (8 and 10) have about two hours of stick, and basically just need me to land it, and it appears that will end soon.
good luck

I just finished covering my Spirit 2M. it looks great! (white tail and fusalage w orange pinstripe, trans orange wing and elevator w white tips)! thought the build was very straight forward (it is my first kit) I cant wait to fly it!

Once you lessen the incidence angles, move the CG well aft, and oversize the rudder, she's a blast! Use just enough nose weight to keep it from getting "just too goosey"
I"m working on one now and I"m going to fiberglass the poo out of the wing root. Pretty woosy design, there.

if flown her quite a few times now, bearing in mind that the photo is about 2 years old, and have only crashed her twice!
once when i was bringing her into land she caught a tree stump ripping off one of the poly-hedrals (sp?) and then cartwheeled down the slope breaking the tail off all repairable the second time was when i was launching her about month later , i hadn't secured the hor-stab. enough and it just collaped, instant stall (just add water!). well all is fixed, off to the slope!!

How Do You Launch?
After 9 years of glow flying, I've been flying a Great Planes Spectra electric glider. I picked up a Spirit ARF and a high start. Are all of you using a high start to launch your Spirits? I haven't flown the Spirit yet.

I have a spirit 2M. It's about 10 years old. I just recently learned to fly, but I've been throwing the spirit around for years. I've replaced the wing joiner with Aluminum, as I broke too many plywood ones.
The fuse in front of the CG is now plywood. (When I started, I thought that we flew with the wind on takeoff.)
Anyways, I flew it several months ago. Make sure to get a 1 stick 2-channel radio. I have an old 2 stick version, and it is horrible for flights.
I need to go out when an experienced sailplane is in the area and follow them to the thermals, as I cannot keep it in the air for too long.

I've got a Spirit too. Mine is about 5 years old, I'm using an O.S.10 with a pod, but I'm trying to Hi-start it. Will it work? Won't my 2 pieces wing break?
Thanks
Thanks

I've built my a Hi-Start (25m-6mm rubber and 60m-1mm nylon) and tested it yesterday, it worked but, it's taking too long for the hook to disconect, what can I do?
The plane climbed about 100ft.
Thanks,
Alexandre

I built one about 4 yrs ago and still fly it occassionally.I am not very experienced at building(or flying for that matter),and this plane was my first kit. After crashing an ARF glider,I built and taught myself to fly with the Spirit.I remember it being a pretty easy build with good instructions.I fiberglassed the wing joint going on advice from another modeler.May not have been necessary on a glider, but it is probably a good habit to get into.I was never happy with the way the spoilers hook up.They work, just never figured out an easy way to hook and unhook them when you need to remove the wing(did not know how to build the servo into the wing, that might have solved this problem).Plus that extra servo in the fuselage made everything a really tight fit.Any more I just fly without the extra servo. The plane climbs out really well on the hi start, and seems to just freeze and start floating at the top.Flies nice and slow, but can react fast to lift and sink.It can get moving when you point it downwind though.Responds to very little input from the sticks.Seems to like wind.I'm guessing i've flown it in 15mph wind or more and it flew nicely, just didn't penetrate well without adding weight.I've flown it inverted(sort of lol).Done loops and spins with it.It's a joy to fly.I'm not very good at finding thermals, but I've hit some by accident and it can climb pretty good.A couple times got it up so high that I had trouble telling wether it was coming or going.I even used it for aerial photography once. But it didn't fly too well with all the extra weight and drag.

Thanks for the report. Sounds like a perfect first glider for me. I have read about how to put servos in the wings. And I have heard that the single servo for the spoilers is not very convenient, but I want them as a learning tool and as a way to get hte plane down out of thermals. I have some real thermal wizards in our club to teach me.
Likewise, the spoilers should help me control the landing.
All in all the spoilers are part of the appeal of the plane. It is the reason I don't want an Aspire.
Good flying to you!

jeffsend: Please give me your CG position. I'm trying with 3 1/2" aft the TE and is doing great.
AEAJR: Can you tell me where did you read about putting spoilers servos in the wing? I'm planning to do the same thing and I'd like to see how others have done this.
Regards.

I'm working on my spoiler servos and plan to fly it this week. Basically 2 HS55 for each wing. Mine is ARF too and I used a thin wrap wired for servo extension. It's thin enough to pass through the original spoiler wire tube.
Here is the original thread including the link to those wrap wire (Thanks Mike). I'll post some pict later after test flight.

Guru_dick,
I assume you meant 3 1/2" aft of LE not TE?I have not experimented much with moving the cg.I like the way mine performs when I just fingertip balance it right on the back edge of the spar.It seems to fly close to stalling speed if I move it back any further, but I have not tried giving it some down trim and flying that way.

I've got mine in the front hole, and sometimes have to feed in a little down elevator during the launch to keep it from popping off. When I launch it it goes almost straight up.Seems like I may have tried moving to the center hole once, and it just made it pop off too early. If yours is not climbing very steep, then it may help to move it back.I stretch the hi start to its limit too...that could have something to do with it.And I am actually using a homemade smaller hi start.25 ft ft of tubing and 200 ft of string.I'm going to build a larger one soon.
