Default Spirit Elite Questions

I am just setting up my new Elite, and am wondering about how much servo lead is required. I ordered what is listed in the Tower accesories list but it appears that it,s going to be a stretch for the aileron hook up. Which brings up another issue of hooking up servo leads while setting up the plane at the field. I.E. , how much extra slack is required without adding additional weight. As you can tell I am reasonably new and this is my first "fullhouse" bird. One more ? how would you fish a pull string thru the wing if you ever lost it.

Tower list 24" ( seems short) extensions for the ail, and 6" for flaps with " Y " at 21" Any comments greatly appreciated, as I don,t have anyone in my area to coach me along.
Aloha, Les

On mine, I have 18 inch extensions for the ailerons. With the usual servo lead added, there's enough to get out of the wing center. Both plug into a T-connector which has another 6 inches.
No problem with enough slack to plug into the receiver.
The servo extensions need be installed only once, before covering.
If there's a reason to pull the extensions, then it's probably re-covering time anyway.

You might find this article helpful http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=211755 I saved quite a bit of weight using the composite pushrods and they dont change length (trim) with temperature changes.

Leslie I am assuming that you have the Spirit Elite arf with the fiberglass fuselage. Extension leads of 18-24" can be used for the aileron servos. If you put your receiver in front of the rud-elev servos as shown on the box & at the Great Planes web site you will need 6-8" extensions to get back to the wing opening. I have found that the fiberglass fuse is too flexible & weak for all but the most sedate flying & luckiest landings. If you catch a wingtip on landing & the plane flips your tailboom will probably crack or break. It is easy to reinforce. I can send you pictures of how I did this on my Elite. The rcgroups article referred to has much good info also. One of the best ideas is to replace the steel pushrods for the rud & elev with something lighter. Do this & mount your battery pack in the nose & you will probably need little or no added nose weight to get the CG correct. Also see Paul Naton's Performance Tuning for Gliders DVD where there is extensive info about the Elite. If you need to change you wing servo leads you can easily pull them through the wing with a pushrod or other piece of stiff wire as the holes in the wing ribs are in a straight line.

Thanks Xfly,
I just weighed it at about 44 oz, but it still needs a lot of weight in the nose. Depending on which battery pack, 6-8 ounces I think.
Looks like I might go pull-pull. on elev/rudder. I know what you mean about flimsy glass, just re-repaired my fling for the last time.

Hi
I wonder if you guys can help me. I just bought a second hand Spirit Elite (kit version it thing - ply fuz) and there seems to be very little down movement on the ailerons - 1/4". I have down loaded the ARTF version instructions from the GP web site and that indicates 3/8" down and 3/4".
Do I need to mdify to get more movement?

Fly it. Less down is normal for long spanned planes.
