Default Best tape for taped hinge?

Okay, so I'm a 'old-school' kinda guy. . .For over twenty years Iv'e resisted the idea of depending upon a 'taped hinge' despite all the Mag. articules and the constant bugging by fellow flyers. Well, around six Mo. ago I put together a GL kit for my son (well in truth. . .He's only four yrs. old. . . for me for 'old times' etc.) and thinking/knowing that a GL is a nice, slow (low airframe stress) ship I THOUGHT I'd give the taped hinge a chance and built the plane so with single bevel hinge lines. . .i.e. it'd be very hard now to install 'normal' hinges and, and . . . Though it hasn't even been flown yet, just sat on a shelf in my home for the past months, upon inspecttion a couple of days ago my worst expectations have come to pass . . . The nice, very sticky medical tape I employed (used to attach bandages to skin, which hurt like heck when I had to pull it off mine) completly debonded! Bad choice of tape.

So guys, what is the right/best tape? I live in a 'high temp' outside enviroment i.e. the inland empire (semi desert) of So. Ca. where the summer temps. are normaly in the high 90's and temps of 105+ are not out of the norm so heat resistence is a consideration.

Blenderm by 3M. It's the very best tape you can use for hinges and most hobby shops carry it. It's very flexible and can be removed with no damage to the covering if it has to be replaced. I do mostly slope soaring and regularly dive my gliders from altitude with no problelms. Another option is using a strip of Monokote to attach the control surfaces. Either method will result in a strong hinge, especially for gliders. Jim

Thanks for the advice, I thought about using the 'film' method but decided for the 'first' try tape seemed more straight forward. I'll get some of that tape you recommended next time I'm out Hobby People's way (if they have it) . . . On the other hand, while looking through one of my many pts. boxes for something else (isn't it always that way, when searching for something you never find what you are looking for at that time but what you were looking for six mo. ago, AFTER going out and buying it again) I happened to come across a pkg. of Robert mini hinge points (only God knows how many yrs. ago or for what purpose I bought them, I surely don't remember). . . Well as they say about 'Old dogs and 'new' tricks'. . .

1 or 2 mil depending on the use.

Blenderm is the best. It is also the tape DuBro uses for their hinge tape they package.

Is Blenderm suitable for DLG rudder? How about flaps and ailerons on a 3meter?

Thanks,
