RE: DynaFlite Kit: Bird of Time
Vic,
Just a thought; go to Great Planes' web site. Look for a PDF download of the assembly instructions for the Spirit ( GPMA1045 manual.pdf ). The pics and text on page 11 may get you started. Even better if you can get a look at the builders drawings. Sorry, I'm still using mine.

RE: DynaFlite Kit: Bird of Time
Hey guys, I'm trying to set-up a 3-piece wing for my BoT. I'm planning on joining the two 24" inboard sections together into one 48" centerpiece. I simply can't figure out how to set up the outboards to plug into the centerpiece. I'm thinking about using the dihedral braces as "wing tubes" and creating a "sleeve" for those wing tubes using the ribs, the spars, and extra blocks....kind of like a Sig 25% Cub is done. Does that make sense? If so, will that work?

I don't know but I've just opened my BOT kit and am thinking about exactly the same thing. Also plan to put spoilers on her.
Hope someone knows the ins and outs of that 3-piece wing set-up.

I did the 3 piece wing on a Goldberg gentle lady once. I used plug in steel music wire in the inboard section with tubes mounted in the outer wing panels. This set up worked well until I pulled hard to get into a thermal one ay and one outer wing section bent up 90'. I landed it OK but I don’t think it was worth the extra weight and loss of wing rigidity.
If you can't handle transporting a one piece 120" wing then I'd recommend you place the wing tube inboard of the polyhedral joint on a flat section of the wing.

I did the math on the 3 piece wing, it's not much more compact than a 2 piece wing, only a few more inches. If you can't find room to fit something 3/4 the fuse leingth in the car as well, your driving a smart car, then maybe you should really rethink your vehical decision?

RE: DynaFlite Kit: Bird of Time
It's not really about total length (for me at least)....it's about the dihedral angles. A 3-piece wing (the way I was going to build it) was going to be one with a tiny bit of dihedral while the other two were going to be straight.

I can't promise this is the best system available..but I have never regretted it..Better things may be even cheaper by now.
