Hello,

We're new to the area and looking for some good locations to fly.
We live in Ferndale, WA.

I fly Mini Elipse, Zaggie, and a new Weasel

Thanks,

I don't know how far you are willing to travel from Ferndale but the south facing slopes of Camano Island would be a place to try, also Double Bluff on Whidbey Island.

I've had the opportunity to fly on Whidbey - lots of fun!

I was told by local hobby shop that some guys were flying somewhere in Blaine, WA - do you know anyone that flys there?

Thanks,
Steve

No sorry I don't. My experiences cover from Camano South. If you ever get to Seattle, try Discovery Park. I'll be over on Whidbey next week.

On the west side of the mountains most of the slopes are covered in trees. Whidby Island has 2 good slopes and one that is fair. Discovery park in Seattle can have incredible lift but if the plane goes down there is little chance of recovery. Soaring Mecca is only 4 hours away in the Tri-Cities. Several of us who live in Seattle and Bellevue go to Eagle Butte, Kiona Butte, Chandler Butte and SDR near Richland many times each year. These slopes are World Class and it does not get any better when the wind is ON. I suggest you visit RCGroups as there is much more soaring on that measage board.

I've seen some fly off the casement at Fort Casey on Whidby Island. Slope's a little steep, but doable. What makes it an ideal location is the almost nonstop wind coming down the Straight of Juan De Fuca. Some days the wind is perfect and you can fly for hours without the plane even moving in relation to the ground. That will probably be where I maiden my Electra, that is if I ever get to start building the darn thing[:@]

Fort Casey is the "fair" slope on the island. Ebey Landing and Fort Ebey are much better.

I'll 2nd that.. If you get to the east side bring a plane or two along.. It's a rare day there isn't some kind of wind around here.

I learned to fly slope on Eagle and Kiona so I guess you could say I'm spoiled

Thanks for all the excellent locations to fly.

This week I was in Eastern WA and made it over to Badger Mt (Eagle Butte).

The wind was in my face and I had a great time flying my new Weasel (foam) ship.

Thanks again for the flying locations.

Steve
