efficient hinge gaps?
Hi,
Recently bought a fully moulded xmodels xcalibur. The flaps and ailerons are both top hinged using one of the fiberglass laminations. When the surfaces are moved up i'm left with a huge slit on the undersides of the wing which increases drag and noise dramatically. I've tried making an internal wiper system as seen on F3B/F/J models but this reduced the downward travel to much. Whats the best way of covering this gap without affecting surface travel/drag. I would be very greatful for any advice Thanks |

RE: efficient hinge gaps?
Use very thin double stick tape and .015" acetate (any art store some office supply houses) allow approx 1/4 " for tape width. Then cut the acetate to a length and width that will cover the gap when the Control surface is in the extreme up position. Tape acetate to the wing surface so that the acetate overhangs the gap and "rides freely" on the control surface.
This sounds as if it would look terrible ----it doesn't as the acetate is clear and also on the bottom. It WILL end your problems. |
