Looking for the "right" electric ship
I have a bunch of land around my house and want to get into an electric thermal ship. I fly Giant scale electric planes and I also have a 3m composite glider, so I am not a newb - but I am looking for something I can fly up to altitude and cut the motor and float for an hours or two or three....
What are the suggested starting points for something that is 2m or less? |
RE: Looking for the "right" electric ship
Possibilities are endless....
Do you want a built-up wing ? sheeted foam? all molded ? First of all, I would recommend going bigger than 2m, at least 3m. The bigger ships are much more tolerant to the increased weight that comes witht the electric drive, it's easier to install all the stuff in the fuse, and, last, not least, they are easier to see at altitude..... I have a 4m all molded Thermik XL from Valenta Models, e-powered, and it thermals really well. I you want a built-up wing, check the XL3200 from [link=http://www.espritmodel.com]Esprit Models[/link] : [link=http://www.espritmodel.com/sailplane_elec_xl3200.html]XL3200[/link] For a sailplane with sheeted foam wings, check the [link=http://www.espritmodel.com/l_thermik_dream.html]Thermik Dream[/link] , also from Esprit Models. RE: Looking for the "right" electric ship
Being that I already have a 3m stork - I was looking for something that I dodn't need so much are to land. I am surrounded by power lines on three sides and if the wind is blowing right, I could land a 3-4m ship, but it rarely blows that direction.
Built-up wing with a glass fuse is fine, but I am not all that picky on that. I appreciate your input, but I think I am looking for something a bit smaller and cheaper since I have too much money wrapped up in my powered planes. Thanks! |
