Hawk Pro vs Raptor 30v2 for beginner
Hello,
I've been flying airplanes for 4 years and am pretty good at it. I am a complete newbie regarding helis though. I'm practicing on a simulator but I'm also looking around for a good package on a heli and engine. I'm considering 2 from www.heli-world.com. They seem to be cheaper than heliproz?
Option 1: Raptor 30v2 kit + Thunder Tiger 39PRO = $309
Option 2: Hawk Pro + Toki .40 + muffer = $329
Any opinions?
I'm also considering the Futaba GY401 vs the CSM HLG200.
Your opinions are greatly appreciated.

The Raptor has awesome parts support and every one and their uncle makes upgrades for it.
The 401 gyro with a 9254 is definately the way to go gyro wise.
One thing to consider is an OS engine the 37 would be ideal. They are many times less troublesome than TT engines.

Barracudaq hockey, You recomended I do a search on the tt 36 Pro h engine to find out for myself that this engine is a P.I.T.A.
No doubt about it. I bought the os 37. Will be installing it next week. From what I've read about the os engines, they are good performers and almost always easy to start. Did the tt39 also have alot of problems? I thought the 39 was the fix to the 36

Yeah i agree, i just got a heli a couple of weeks ago now, my local dealer suggested a raptor 30 v2 as a beginner, he also suggested a super custom 32 Heli engine, its a pretty powerful engine(and loud) but i also hear the O.S37 to be an excellent engine as well. but i guess its up to youe personnal opinion and who you trust more in recommendation. But anyway good look with you choice i would say Raptor 30V2, but do not get the 39TT.
Hope this helped, UKMAXI

Any engine that starts with TT seems to be a pain. I've helped out a few people with them and we are always twiddling with motors while the OS guys are flying. I won't fly anything but OS, personal preference? Yep, but baised on experiance.
WhiteBronco will chime in when he gets back about how his TT motor has been sweet since it came out of Santa's sleigh, and there are some that seem to run flawlessly. But if you want to play the odds, spend a few more bucks and get an OS

I'll vote for a Raptor 30V2 and an OS .37 SZ-H engine, too...
Raptors fly great, and parts are easy to find. OS engines run great out of the box and are easy to tune. I've heard mixed reviews of TT engines and Tokis.

The 37 has more power than the 32. From what I hear, and I've searched around, the os engines are fine engines whatever size you get.

Both are very good entry level heli's but I prefer the Hawk Pro because of the "flutter free" rotor head, the full bearing complement and the better clutch/power system.
As for the motors. The TT 39 is a big improvement on the TT36 but still not in the class re: "user friendliness" of the OS32 or 37 or the Toki 40. I found the OS37 and Toki to be in about the same power range (far beyond the OS32 or TT39).
