RE: What to get (elec)?
What heli to get depends on how much you want to spend, what you want the heli to be able to do, and what kind of commitment do you have to the hobby.
If you have lots of money to waste, want to fly in any wind, and do 3D, then a really big electric might be it. These can cost alot, and batteries cost alot. They can do anything you want though... I'd imagine the battery packs costing around 100+ each, and a completely new setup around 2500+
If you want a .30 size 3D electric heli, able to take just about any wind and toss around, a Logo 10 or a Century Swift might be it. For a completely new setup with everything, i'm thinking around 900-1200 or so.
If you want a mid-small 3D electric heli, able to take quite a bit of wind, and really toss around, a Trex probably is it. For a completely new setup with everything, i'm thinking around 700-1000 or so.
If you want a small 3D capable heli (it will need to be set up for 3d), can take little wind at most, a Blade CP or Honeybee CP2 might be it. For a completely new setup with everything, i'm thinking around 400-700 or so.
If you want something really small, that should never be in any wind (mostly inside), that can't do much other than hover and slow forward, then a Blade CX might be it. No idea on price.

i was thinking of something in the 500 range that would be capable enough to do 3d ! I also wouldn't mind something smaller as i'm used to 1/18th scale stuff !

Don't make the mistakes i have made if you want a good electric outdoor heli get a T-Rex don't waste your money on the Blade CP its not a bad heli just not all that good save a bit longer and get something you won't regret. On the other hand if your looking into coaxial helis the best one that i have come across the the Hirobo Lama Sky Robo sr that would run you about $300.00 but its strictly indoors or on the calmest of days you might be able to fly it outside hope this helps.
Regards,
Phil
ps. i have the lama, blade cp, blade cx and a totally blinged out T-Rex

RE: What to get (elec)?
I must agree, even though you are looking at the $500 price range... i would suggest the Trex.
To get the Blade CP to 3D you will most likely spend extra on a brushless and LiPo setup and some chassis upgrades. Then you will still have the stock radio and a 4in1 unit as a gyro...
With the Trex, you probably can't get everything in the $500 price range, especially if you get the best bang for your buck (long term).
I'm not good with electric heli operation gear... so maybe someone else should answer.

I'm intrested in getting a helicopter as well. I'm mostly into racing the cars, but was wondering if you guys could give some pros and cons about the blade cp, trex and the humming bird v3. Any info would be great. Thanks.

I personally use sub-c NIMH cells on my .30 electric. Hell of alot cheaper than using LIPO, even if they do have enourmous power capacity.
