This is a little frustrating. I do not even have a lot of miles on this ESC. Do you think it will be covered under warranty LOL.

I have no idea I was setting up my servos. Let me back up. I installed the servos according to instructions for Trex 450. Then I realized I neede to turn all my servos around to get linkages straight. Then I was setting servos for 90 degrees when all of a sudden my ESC started on fire. Does this happen? I hope my receiver & servos are ok. Mayby I can check it somehow. I ordered this ESC from Hobby City last May.[sm=drowning.gif]

I always use a small receiver ni-cad pack when setting up my birds then hook up the ESC and do the programming on it if I have to. That way there's no chance of the motor starting up till I'm ready. I've had a couple of ESC blow the worst being a 120 Amp Hi Voltage one on 12S that damn near burnt my house down. Big burned hole in the industrial carpet in my shop, threw flames a foot and a half out the front of it, then the components started falling off the board that really got the fire going, luckly the flames didn't set the 2200ma 2S battery on fire, burnt thru part of the covering but not the envelope containg the actual cell. 2 6S 5000ma packs in series on a T-Rex700 electric conversion. Over 52 volts and all the amps it could produce just like a little arc welder. When I received the new ESC I did all the setup outside on the concrete pad. That one went back to HC and was warrantied.

well I am going to contact HC after the holidays. See if they will warranty worth a try anyway. I never have motor hooked up when I am setting up. I do not have a Rx battery. I do still have original ESC but it does not have slow start and not programmable. I will probably order other from HC hopeing this was an isolated insident. For now I will set up my spare ESC. I may also order those HDservos therefore combining shipping.

this is a terribly demanding game your entering into. Heli's the great time and money sinks, I'll clarify that, R/C anything the great time and money sinks. Don't get me wrong it's a lot of fun and now that I'm retired, time isn't a problem. If I'm still in the shop at midnight.....well that's just how it goes and I answer to no one but myself now. I can always sleep in tomorrow

I here you. I started with Nitro trucks 6 years ago. I thought it was never fast enough till I sat back and added up some bills. Then into EP RC speed boats. And now the helis. Unfortunately my time is still short. I work lots and I have 2 children under 6. They demand a lot of time from me. But I do love them very much. I really enyoy RC I have always been a real tinkerer, could use a little more patience sometime but it is coming. Thanks for all your knowledge so far.

Hey i do not know what I was talking about I have a Rx battery in both my truck & boat. Took the one for my boat this is way better than running thru ESC. I will get servos all set up then install original ESC till new one shows up. spare parts are great.

actually the first thing I do when setting up the TX is set up the throttle hold, that way it won't start anyhow but I still do all the cyclic and gyro and tail servo setup with a RX battery.

it's on "the function list" and allows you to select a switch to control it, mine is set to use Aux2 on the heli tx. the plank tx I'm not sure as the 2 DX7's that I have are both the heli tx's and the switching is different plank to heli. All of the setting paramaters are described in the manual with the options available to select. To learn all the functions available to you, you'd better take at least half a year off and study the manual in extreme detail, there are that many.

another thing to do is after you have it all set up and working correctly, make sure to set the throttle trim, small slider on the front of the tx to the bottom, then rebind the receiver to the tx.

that's the one and it tells the ESC that your throttle is really at zero. Not 1 or 2 or 3 clicks raised above the stop. Also if your going to crash if you lower the trottle the ESC say's ok he really wants to stop the motor. Might save you a main gear or shaft or main shaft bearings or feathering shaft and dampers. Stripped tail drive belt or bent tail shaft. etc etc, also when/if the rx looses signal the motor goes to 0 rpm. You still can play with the ESC thru the ATV settings in fact you really should set the low threshold on the ESC thru the ATV settings I'v found that the low/soft start works better when you start to feed thorttle in and it starts near the bottom of the stick.
Remember what I said about taking 6 months off and studying the manual? This is a terrible time waster of a hobby! Fun time waster but one non the less.
