30 or 50?
 

I see alot of ppl reccomend a 50 size over a 30 for a beginners....
Since I am soon to be a beginner to R/C Helicopters I ask....
Why a .50?? From the videos I've seen online the .30's are quite capable....

Also I'm looking at the raptor .30v2 is can you upgrade it to a .50 size? I mean is the .50 just bigger blades/longer tail boom? or is it built totally different?

the r-50 just has bigger blades and longer tail boom,different gears,but its the same as the r- 30,ive had both,yes you can upgrade the r-30 to a 50 also.

The biggest difference would be the power. Increased power can get you out of a lot of trouble. The power is what makes a lot of people quickly outgrow their 30 heli and eventually buy a 50/60 size.

But wouldn't the power be = because yes you are going to a larger engine however the rotor diameter is increased?

Highly recomend getting the Raptor 50 kit, is a better deal than the 30. With the 50 you get; a great muffler instead of a junky one that 90% of us throw away, great carbon blades instead of cheapo woodies (save for later though), you get driven tail so you can steer when doing autorotaions, you also get an all metal swashplate, and carbon frame brace.

The bigger engine will be easier to tune. More power means you can run richer and cooler and still have flyable power with fewer hassles and reduced risk of overheating (a common problem with the 30's)

most folks once they get the hang of it want more power, the 50 delivers, a lot of folks may graduate to the big 70's and 90's but they still fly the rappy 50, but the 30 gets left home. Pretty sure i will have a 50 in my trunk on saturday morning for a long long time. My 30 lasted 3 months, before getting upgraded.

The upgrade is OK, but it ends up costing more and you end up with less. I have 2 Rappy 50's one from a kit, one from an upgrade. the 50 kit cost about 100$ more than the 30 and came with all the goodies, the upgrade ended up costing more than 300$ and i still don't have the metal swash, carbon blades or carbon frame brace.

Yup, its the same bird, different engine mount, longer blades and boom, but otherwise the same so you get all the cheap and redily available parts and upgrades. most of the upgrades are a waste of money though. i tried a few things, 3D paddles, fancy fan, but i am back to stock now. about the only upgrade i am interested in at this point is tuned pipe. (more power, and i think it tends to act like a governor to keep the head speed locked in better.) i hope to try one in the next few weeks.

Forgot to mention i have the boom mount tail servo, i like it because you don't have to reset your tail every time you adjust the tail belt tension (it will streach a littel for the first few weeks) but some folks prefer the stock arrangment on that anyway. i also use 60size tail blades for more tial control authourity. i just trim tham down to 92mm so they don't hit the ground on sloppy landings

The frames are also diff. on the true 50.

The v2 50 kit is deff. a beter value. You can still slow it down for learning.

Guys,

I just got a 50 V2 (Factory Sealed) and it had only wooden blades. Was I suppose to get Carbon Blades?

According to the Heliproz web site, all of the R50 kits they carry come with Carbon blades. mine certainly did. I suppose there could be other variations, but it might be a good idea to call the place you got yours from.

I have seen some kits that say Wood blades.

(just descovered that the true 50 has a bigger clutch too.)
