help! Christmas present doesn't fly

OK, I can kind of imagine you get a lot of questions like this...
I bought my daughter a toy RC helicopter for Christmas. It's a Silverlit Nano-Falcon XS.
Well we can't get it to fly properly. When you press the throttle it jumps into the air, briefly, and then skitters away sideways and crashes.
The instructions suggest that it should be possible to get it to hover about 1m high just using the throttle, but we can't get it to do that.

The best we did was when my daughter holding down the left trim button continuously, but we told her to stop because we figured it's not intended to do that: is it possible something was broken while she was doing that? Our general attempts to trim the thing are not working because it won't stay up for long enough to try to trim it.

We have charged the battery fully, as far as we can tell.
We are taking off from a flat surface.

Can anyone help?

Hi, I am not sure if you have resolved the issue. My best advice is to get a Blade Inductrix RTF. Very stable and reasonably priced. I have flown for years from small Nano CP heli up to 50 size nitro helis. I can say that for indoors I have not seen anything better than the inductrix. It teaches you all the controls of a heli with easy self-leveling. As you advance you can turn off the self leveling of the accelerometers. Since it uses ducted fans you can't hurt yourself and it just bounces off most objects. I have yet to break anything and my 8 year old son loves it. I have done planes and small helis with him using a buddy box, but he has advanced much faster using these. I also purchased extra nanotech 200mah batteries and get a respectable 7min of flight time. If you eventually get a better Spektrum compatible TX you can bind to it. I did and use a buddy box to train people how to fly. Best instructing tool I have used, like a real life sim. Even my wife has gotten the hang of it. Hopefully this has been helpful even though late response.
