Gyro help?
 

Can somebody point me in the right direction for this question? I'm looking for more info on gyro's. I'd like to understand better what they do (I've found some okay articles so far) and also which one I should buy for my concept 46 vr. No, I haven't flown it yet but it would be for just basic flight patters and hovering...nothing fancy. I've just been practicing and practicing on Realflight and then I'm going to find a instructor to help me for the first few times. Which leads me to another question...I'm from the Twin Cities area in Minnesota. Any heli instructors reading this forum that are from here? Thanks in advance.

What does a gyro do?

The answer is that it provides stability. A rate gyro slows down uncommanded movements of the tail. A heading hold gyro will prevent a change in position of the tail unless you command otherwise. With heading hold, you can hover in a cross-wind without having to hold in a correction to keep the tail from turning like a weather vane. Of course, you can fly without a gyro, but in that case, you will have to do a lot more adjustment to yaw to overcome the many things that can point the tail in an unwanted direction.

I'm a guy from central WI who spends quite a bit of time in the Twin Cities area between work, hobby shops (just there last Saturday) and Valleyfair. You shouldn't have any trouble finding someone to help. Judging from the number of hobby shops there that have extensive amounts of heli's and part, there must be a lot of guys who fly.
