engine advice
i'm having some trouble with my engine setup. it's a TT36, bought used, and probably ready to be replaced. anyhow, i'm having trouble keeping it running. it starts right up, doesn't die when the glow driver is removed, and idles fine. the problem is when i throttle up, and hit about 1/4 throttle, the engine dies. i have had several local experts look at this, and even adjust the mixture for me. it works fine for a tank or two, and then back to readjusting. after the engine is really hot, it runs fine. but it's frustrating getting to the hot point. i've been told to just replace the engine, and my problems will be solved. i have a 50 conversion kit ready to install, but i just want to know why this engine is giving me so many problems.

RE: engine advice
Sounds like something is causing it to go lean. Maybe a hole in the fuel line, or dirt in the carb/or clunk.
The engine may be just be junk, but it's probably something simple. Change all the lines, clean everything out and give it another go. Ben |
RE: engine advice
If the above doesn't work...
Check for a cracked metal (brass or aluminum) line in your tank stopper... (don't forget to check the clunk line inside the tank.... a hole in that will drive you nuts.) Flush or replace the fuel filter (you do have one don't you?) |

RE: engine advice
would muffler type make a difference? i cracked the stock one, and replaced it with a revolution pipe.

RE: engine advice
i got the engine out last night, and think i found the problem. when i crank it over by hand, and look into the exhause port, i see two things. 1.) when the engine is almost at full compression, i can see air bubbles leaking around the side of the piston. 2.) sevearl scratches on the side of the piston.
