Thinking of a Raptor
 

Hi there,

I'm been flying planes for a while and was thinking of getting a chopper.
Well i have a Hyperfly but thats of no use actually. Never toof off!!
Anyway i was thinking of the Raptor 30.
Ok i also have an aero EXPERT GX-100 gyro. I have no use for it as i'm not using it on my planes.
I have asked this before but got a negative answer but can it by any chance be used on the chopper? I really don't want to get another gyro if possible.

Ive used the expert gyro a few years ago when i was learning to hover planes. It worked to a some extent but i didn't consider it suitable for a heli so i never tried it. Try it, if you have one already, but i'm pretty sure you will end up getting a good gyro like the futaba 401. In HH mode it is steady as a rock, makes it much easier to fly. If you are looking to save money get the gy 401 without the digital servo, these guys are sooooo good they work fine with standard servos.

I think the axis and the orientation of planes gyro are very much different from a heli gyro... so don't even try it.

well i might sound really dumb here but for the axis point of view, on the manual it says that it can be used for either the rudder,elevator or ailerons on the plane. Won't this mean that since the axis for the gyro is so flexible, it can be used on the chopper for rudder as well?

i dont think its ment to be in a heli but just wondering if by any chance/modification, it can be used in a helicopter.

prety sure a gyro has the same function in a plane or a heli. The gyro tries to minimize movement.

The expert gyro will be better than no gyro, but it will be nothing like the futaba 401. The modern heli gyros have a micro computer that not only tries to stop motion, it can add up any motion it detects and calculates the actuall rotation that occured, and produces oposite controll untill it has caused the tail to rotate back to its starting point. You can park a heli in 20MPH side wind, and the tail will hold quite well. Great for a heli, possibly disastrous for an airplane. VERY cool stuff that can be had for a modest price of $130 or so.

If you are on a tight budget, and already have an expert, try it, if you don't already have an expert, don't waste your money. Save up for a good heli gyro, pretty sure i'll never use my expert ex1 again. It obviously worked on the ground, but i couldn't tell much difference hovering a plane with the gain set to max and a standard servo on rudder. i am told it works better with a fast digital servo, but by the time you have bought a fast servo you have spent nearly as much for the good gyro, and still it will never do Heading Hold.

The cheapest one is rarely the best value. The EX1 is a good example.
