Awsome! Looks like you have an awsome set of helis there. Glad you are aboard, but it looks like you are not a newbie with all of these helis. Have you flown them? Do you have the flight sim? I only have one heli. It's a nitro. It is a Raptor .30 size but I have still never flown it. I have only flown the flight sims. Still getting used to the engine set up. I see you have the Trex. How do you like it? I almost got me one, but don't need to spend that money right now.

i have actualy only been doing this heli thing for 6 weeks nowand i dont have a simulator, i can almost buy a heli for the money i would spend on one. When i bought the first one i was hooked and i just kept buying them,i was lucky enough to get the ROBBE moskito for £250 with a decent JR radio ,its ready to fly as brand new, but i can only just manage to hover my hummingbird ,the others are to upgrade as i go along,so when i do get it properly i will be able to fly some nice modified helis.so far ive spent over £2000 but i know that i WILL spend it eventually so why not now .:D

the site looks very good.....almost as good as my regular one here in the UK...lol

Welcome!

And you can spend the cost of a simulator fixing just one crash. While you can learn to fly without a simulator, there is no doubt (and most everyone will agree) that practicing on a simulator will save crashes. Any experienced pilot will tell you that they are well worth the price.

At the very least, I'd recommend picking up one of the free simulators; such as FMS.

i actually bought some training gear which kept the breakages down to a minimum..........£150 for a cd....no way, i get vexed paying £15 for a music cd.


ps i have the fms sim but not the bits to go on the comp to get it to work

My first crash 12 years ago happened when I panicked and pulled the collective down too fast and drove the heli into the ground from just 3 feet up. Cost to repair ...... US$210 (ended up getting a new kit for $270 instead). There is no doubt in my mind that with prior practice on a simulator, that crash would never have happened. That makes the $139 cost of a simulator seem cheap now. Even the top of the line sims are less than what I spent on that first crash repair.

There is lots of info online about how to make a cable to connect you transmitter to a PC for use with FMS. If you don't have the resources to make your own cable, there are also lots of places that sell inexpensive cables. If you can't find anything, let me know and I will look up some links.

A simulator is the best, cheapest and fastest way to learn IMO. I say fastest because you are willing to try stuff o a sim you would not even think about trying with your model. The only way to learn new things is to try new things. Once you pay for the sim crashing it is free. Once you buy the helis, and you have quite a collection, you have to pay lots for the crashes.

My 6 year old daughter solo'd on planes her 5th trip to the flying field and I know that is due to the year or so she spent flying the simulator first. Kinda funny she has no problem flying planes, but gets mixed up when an R/C car is coming towards her.

I learned to fly without a simulator about 17 years ago since they didn't have them then. It's possible to do but I wouldn't recommend it. My learning curve was much longer than it should have been.

Take advantage of the technology and get a sim. It'll pay for itself real quick!

Agree with what you say I started flying Heli's over 13 years ago my experiences must have followed yours, so a simulator is a good idea but a cheap heli option for a beginner is something like a hummingbird or twister they can take a lot of abuse and are very cheap to repair compared to an IC engined type.

i dont fly nitros yet im just starting out with the electric ones indoors,but there are a few places to fly nitros but not very near to london.

Like the Trex what ESC and gyro are you using, have just upgraded mine to phoenix 35 as the align 25 did not really make the grade although it did work well in the basic machine. Other thing need to ask what difference does the extend boom and carbon blades make to its performance.

i have the same g. iro as you but the heli is not quite set up properly at the moment...my first attempt at a kit,and im waiting for someone to give it a mot..lol..so i cannot tell you as to the performance of the heli yet.

Have you been to www.trextuning.com excellent site if you follow everything on there it is possible to set it up yourself and then get someone to check tx settings. Im using JR PCM 9X but the site has helped me as the Rex is my first electric heli and have been flying mine for about eight weeks and am impressed with its outdoor performance. Have just upgrade swash to align all metal unit and have done the tail with the microheli tail upgrade with has improved the tail pitch throws. Look forward to hearing how it responds with the upgraded blades etc might even purchase a set for my CCPM machine when Ive finished all the other upgrades!

i will keep you posted as to the rex but as i cant even hover properly yet i wont be flying it for a while im just going to upgrade as much as possible while its grounded,the align website is amazing...so many add on bits..i want all the carbon bits next.:D
