Engine temp

I've been doing basic hover manuevers. About 6 tanks thru her. My question is what temperature should the engine be after running out of fuel. I recently bought a IR temp gauge to make sure carb settings are correct and engine is not overheating. My engine is a TT39.

Thanks for any and all replies.

Those fancy temp gauges are nice but all you need to do is stick a finger on the back plate after you land. If you can hold it there and its cold you can go leaner. If it gets uncomfortable after 3 or 4 seconds its about right. If you cant touch it, your too lean.

RE: Engine temp

The TT39 tends to run hotter then most OS engines and likes the low end rich about 2 1/2 to 3 turns. The backplate method works very well since using a temp gun on the head yields varied temps. If you can hear your engine sizzle and muffler puff out steam then it is way to hot.

My Raptor 50 runs great at about a 220 head temp... but the backplate is too hot to touch... go figure! Maybe my fingers are too sensitive!
