Beginner Needs help.
Hi , I`ve been in the rc car world for 18 years and lately have an interest for helis . I started out with a Venom Night Ranger , which was ok if it wasn`t windy out . I`ve been told to start with a bigger nitro helicopter . Is this true ? I got rid of the Venom heli and looking for something that is a little easier along with being able to run outdoors . Can any give me some ideas what is a good starter and what is needed ? I appreciate any help.

RE: Beginner Needs help.
If you like electric, the T-Rex is hard to beat. This is a known good performer, and it will be more stable than the NR you had.
It can handle more wind. Going nitro has it's pros and cons. I can fly my T-Rex in my back yard, or at the local little league park, but the neighbors would not allow a nitro. A bigger nitro bird will be even more stable than a T-Rex, but you have already learned on a small twitchy model, so the T-Rex should be a great upgrade. Vince |
RE: Beginner Needs help.
ok , thanks. Who makes the T-rex ?

RE: Beginner Needs help.
The company is Align.
Here are some reputable vendors who have many different combo packages. http://www.modefosheli.com/ http://www.grandrc.com/ http://www.allerc.com/ Vince |
RE: Beginner Needs help.
if the trex is too $$ check out the Ark x400 The very similer but the ark is supposed to be a lil more stable. And the Trex is supposed to be a lil more 3D capable. AKA the X400 is a poor mans trex. Check out your LHS and see if they support the Trex, X400 or MX400. If they do I would auomatically get that one.

What about nitro helis ? I heard that the Kyosho Caliber 30 is a good starter .

RE: Beginner Needs help.
Ok , I looked at the t-rex and Ark . It looks like more hobby shops carry the t-rex and have parts . Looking at the t-rex , which one is a good beginner ? There are like 4 different kits , are they all good for getting started . If so I`d like to get 450XL . What is the difference between CDE and HDE ? If these both are good starters which is better ? I`d like to get one that I can do tricks and stuff when I get the hang of this . Another question , Which gyro ? I see that JR and a lot others make them . I plan on buying the spektrum radio for what ever I get . I use the Spektrum radio systems in all my cars and swear by them . I hope this doesn`t seem like stupid questions and sure it has been asked before. This is all new and is another language to me.

RE: Beginner Needs help.
your best bet is move to the Electiric heli forum and goto the trex subforum and just read a bit. I really dont know. I imagine some have upgrades and some don't.(Like CF frames, Aluminum parts, ect....) Also if you get a trex check about using a x400 stabalizer blades and rod, thats whats supposed to make the x400 a lil more stable.

RE: Beginner Needs help.
Hi All,
I started with a Trex, then got a .30 size nitro. Nitro is easier. I have more money into the Trex with upgrades, than the stock .30 cost me. I should have stared with the .30 Try this link http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=4084391 Or look this thread up. Hi,
I am totally knew to rc helis. Can anyone tell me if the twister bell is a good one to get started on? If anyone has any other recomendations I would much appreciate the info. Thanks, Jon. |
RE: Beginner Needs help.
I learned to fly helicopters on the Blade CP. I picked that one because it is fairly inexpensive and has all of the same control features as a larger nitro heli (collective pitch).
It was a bit of work to get my brain trained to fly the heli, but after I did it has been the most rewarding RC hobby flying I have done in a long time. Just be prepared to spend some time at the kitchen table repairing the heli until you get your skills developed. Its a fun little bird and I would recommend it to anyone. The Honeybee CP2 is also an exact replica of the Blade CP, but I have noticed the CP has more of a hobby store presence and you might be able to get parts quicker because of that... see what your LHS has in their inventory... you might want to go with that to start off.
