Weekly Sim Practice
Going to try to keep up with this atleast for a while but here's some tips to get you going in the right direction and the same thing I make students practice with thier real heli and in the sim.
Fly the T Start from a stationary tail in hover in front of you. Slide left about 15 to 20 feet then slide right back to center and pause. Slide right another 15 or 20 feet (get used to making these legs the same distance so you are flying a symetrical pattern) then back to center. Pause at center and fly straight out 20 feet, stop and fly straight back to your starting point and stop. Sounds easy. Give it a try! But it takes some concentration to... A. Maintain the heading of the nose at all times. B. Maintain the same altitude at all times. C. Maintain the same speed at all times. D. Come back tot he precise starting point each time consistently. Getting cocky? Add some wind! Andy |

RE: Weekly Sim Practice
Do i have to buy the Sim or can i just download it? Please let me know guys thanks a lot...

RE: Weekly Sim Practice
this is mostly for any sim but there is a free sim download called FMS, just google it and you should be able to find it. It's not really all that good as far as a sim goes, but it does teach orientation well which is a very good thing for beginners.

It's not really all that good as far as a sim goes, but it does teach orientation well which is a very good thing for beginners. I was planning to buy the E-sky Flight Simulator, but not sure if it actually good for using. The reason i think that is because it cost about $20. For those who have this let me know what u guys think of this product.. |
RE: Weekly Sim Practice
yeah, it's not a bad one, basically that is the one I was talking about with the Esky usb transmitter =) It's 4 channels and it will teach you orientation, but probably not alot more than that. Also realize that any sim, and this one especially is not like real heli flying =)
BTW I think these should be posted somewhere else =) I think baracuda ment for this to be more for different training routines and flight lessons on the sim =) If you want to move it you're welcome to PM me with the new location and I'll be glad to answer there =) |
RE: Weekly Sim Practice
Due too circumstances beyond my control, I have been putting in a lot more sim time than real time.
In real time I hover well, do sides-in with no problem, do all the little excercises you posted above. I even forward fly, (slowly) from the left to the right and turn and switch directions, (slowly). The other day I got close to a tall tree and somehow got oriented nose in, and was drifting tail-end into the tree. I managed to pull forward away from the tree, did a 180 and landed as quickly as I could. After my hands stopped shaking I went back up, just to get back on the horse. On the sim I am doing everthing very well in normal. In idle up I am now managing to do aileron and elevator rolls on the deck, inverted hovers right down to the runway, decent autos, etc.. I think i'm timid because my 9C doesn't have that "red instant repair button" that's on the sim transmitter. So, i'm thinkin maybe I should just turn loose and "believe", do some nose-in hovering, fly some fig. 8's, etc.. Would you suggest that I do it high, (maybe 30 ft.) or down low, just off the ground. |
RE: Weekly Sim Practice
Higher is better till your comfy.
Always when trying something new, keep your bail out plan in mind. For nose in for example, be thinking, power, a little back cyclic so its moving away from you, and rudder to get the tail around and it headed up if something happens. Practicing inverted you want to think about pulling down the collective and rolling out if there's a problem. |
RE: Weekly Sim Practice
So! Today I "believed" and went out and flew figure 8's at about 50' with no problem. It made me a little nervous, but I burned a couple of tanks doing figure 8's and practicing landings. Didn't get into nose-in yet because it was a little gusty, but soon.
I think i'll take the training gear off tonite, my landings are fine and those 4 orange balls give me an optical illusion up high. Thanks for all the help. |
