Trex 600 nitro tips and tricks

Well I thought I would start a thread on the Trex 600 nitro because I don't seem to see to many threads on this heli. Lets Start by this is my first heli I went a little crazy tax time came and had the money. I have an ungodly amount of planes and am very good I Fly both warbirds and aerobatics. With this heli I Bought the PRO VERSION (just cause) and the combo deal that came with the align pipe 611 gyro 9452 servos, MAH carbon blades and the os 50 hyper. I really like the looks of this and I have a friend who bought the 30 and 50 titan and hes learning as well. I want eveyones advice on good setup Ideas and pros and cons to what, everyone thinks Plus any building tips and tricks. I know I went overkill for my first heli maybe a to extream but like I said money wasnt a Prob oooo yea I also am an expert on the G3.5 on all helis.. I know it isnt the same like I said im a great plane pilot and planes are not the same on the sim but I can do most all 3d and hover is a piece of cake on the sim on all helis. Also all your picts would be great and stuff you learned flying this bird that will help me and other readers plus this is a good spot to find mabey this heli is a good one for a beginner. <--- Expecsive beginner

Nice heli to start with. If I can get off my tail and get rid of a Titan I plan on getting a 600n. All the equipment you got for it is perfect. I don't think it's overkill at all. You will have more success learning on that than with a 200 RTF package. The only thing I can think of replacing off the top of my head is the fan, get the metal one. (I think the pro still comes with the plastic one)

Thanks Bad Your right it does come with the plastic fan and I am considering it as we speak before the build and also y r u gettin rid of your titan my buddy is building one and its a nice one seems real compareable to the titan for what I heard. What all do you have in It and is there any good advice I could find out for him the titan is his first and it looks good thanks again.

I've got the same heli and am building it with the help of some local guys and finless bob videos. think about getting the 2in1 voltage regulator and glow igniter, real handy.

other than that, don't forget to loctite metal on metal and grease all the bearings before putting them in, better safe than sorry and the bearings are a (^%(^ to get out later.

we're breaking in my .50 hyper on a test stand before installing. trying to break in the engine when you're also learning is a pita.

I've also heard that the plastic levers aren't great and that if you screw in the ball links at an angle they will snap off. with the cnc levers that's not a concern.

I'm personally thinking about buying the parts to make the tail a belt driven until i'm better, a tail strike will twist the tube while a belt would be ok.

Rideblue, The Titan is a fine heli, I have 3 and never had any real problems with them. Tell your buddy to get the upgrade tail hub, part # pv0499. Other than that he is fine to build it stock and add some upgrades later if he wishes. The tail hub is just a known problem, it's a $6 part and much easier to replace it during the build than go back and do it later. I have the GY401/9254, Hitec 5625's, hyper and either Mavrrick or Rotor tech blades on mine and they all fly great. I have the 611 gyro on my 90's and it is a great gyro, you'll be happy with that selection.

Awsome thanks for the advise you guys and thanks bad I will tell my friend that thats what im looking for here I have built mine all the way to the specs need a throttle servo tho. I just bought the new dx7 and have one of its servos but I think Im gunna stay with all futaba servos. But now that I have it built and the radio what setup steps should I take now and how or where do I go for extra help on this matter all my ball joint are set to the book and my servos are 90 Deg to all rods i did notice real bad that all my movements without setting anything is that the movements seem to be way to much cause I can pop off ball links on the swash upper plate where the arms to the arm that are on swivles those pop off at full movements But thanks for all your help guys..

RE: Trex 600 nitro tips and tricks

Turn down the numbers in your swash mix screen till you get +-12 degrees, actually if you're learning you should stick with 10, and about 6 to 8 degrees of cyclic throw.

RE: Trex 600 nitro tips and tricks

Cool I think I have my head pretty close for a beginner level swash and level mixin arms and the other set of arms are level to each other plus all my servos are at a 90 degree now. Im learning the radio some more and have it a little set up the dx7 is nice but they had to make everything different from futaba so learning that is all new as well also setting up the gyro to my radio seems to be a task I know I dont have that rite as well.. but enough time and reading and internet videos I just may have it in a few days :D:D

What gyro?

rideblue 02-19-2008 07:44 PM

RE: Trex 600 nitro tips and tricks

Its the 611 futaba with the servo it comes with.

Just leave the gear channel set to gear and adjust the end points till the gyro display says 35 to 40 percent gain in AVCS mode. You want to adjust the servo arm length so you get around 100 to 110 on the LIMIT-A and LIMIT-B in the gyro, that sets your over all servo travel, if you are way under that shorten the arm, if way over then you are too short.

RE: Trex 600 nitro tips and tricks

I think it is an great choice for a beginner in that it is very stable and predictable as long as it is set up soft. The only draw back I see for a beginner is the cost to repair compaired to say a 450.

As for building tips and tricks, I second the thought about the 2 in 1 reg. Get the version that comes with the 1900 mil LiPo battery it will save a few bucks over getting it sep.
Also, I would pick up the Align servo arms/wheels for the three Cyclic servos, that makes the linkage geometry come out perfect the first time.
For fueling ease I would get one of the three way filters and also do away with the fuel line pinchers that came with the kit. K&S and others make some that are much easier to use. I also like to use a line plug in the fill line in addition to the line pinch for added Security. An unexpected auto due to the pinch failing could be a disaster for a beginner.
I also like the Align Gyro mount since you are using the 611. That sets the gyro over the two servo's up front, and it puts the gyro under the canopy and out of the oil bath.
As far a breakin the 50 hyper has plenty of power even when running on the rich side, I would just go with a rich setting for the first gallon of so while you are learning to hover. Also if you know any heli pilots with experience it would be a good idea to have them do a few full throttle pulls when you are setting the needles after the breakin to make sure it doesn't go lean on full throttle.

The metal upgrade parts are great. That being said, I have never had an issue with the plastic parts, they seem to be fine as long as you are careful not to over tighten during assembly. For the ball links that thread into plastic, I like to carefully thread them in until they just bottom out to cut the threads. then back them all the way out and apply a small amount of medium CA to the ball link threads per the manual then thread them back in until snug. I have never had a problem doing it this way.

One thing to look out for when building, is that the pre-assembled parts need to be checked, especially the fan/clutch assembly and washout levers into washout base. They are normally just put in finger tight with no locktite.

Cool thanks Jpappano thats some good tips I have done most of what you said by now i did get the 2 in 1 with batt and did pretty much all the things you said but I was to afraid to start it and get it going alone so we found a Friend that lives a few hours from us and is a great heli pilot and set it all up and flew if for the first time for me I flies like a dream so smooth theres not vibs anywhere it was sweet BBBUUTT I havent flowen it yet its to great and looks to sweet so im flying a used raptor 50 I traded for and it flies ok just needed a lot of work I took it to him and he pointed out a lot of things and come to find out it had been crashed or something cause the spendle and the main shaft were both bent and the clutch was real tingy so I pulled it out and the clutch was running on the clutch housing with no liner at all now I finally got it where it is flyable and doesnt vibrate to bad any more. but thinks for your tips they are all real helpfull..
:D:D

Hi-

I am an experienced plane flyer who has been flying a CP Pro, and has now bought a 600 nitro.
I have a couple of questions:

1) what are the best servos to use? ( I usually use JR or Hitec.)
2) as a beginner, do i need a governor at all?
3) can I use a nimh instead of a Lipo for the reciever?
4) I plan on using the JR 750 Gyro what are your thoughts? Is the Align Gyro good?

I have purchased the OS 50 hyper engine and have 600 D blades.

Any and All feedback appreciated!

Best? JR 8717s though far from mandatory. Align DS620s are a good value and a lot of guys like them, I use Futaba 9452's on mine.

2) as a beginner, do i need a governor at all?
Interesting question. They make setup a lot easier but I'd probably start without one. My favorite is the multigov.

3) can I use a nimh instead of a Lipo for the reciever?
Sure thing. Just make sure it has sufficent capacity, 1800 to 2200 mah is probably a good target, get one made for RC from decent cells so it can deliver the amps needed.

4) I plan on using the JR 750 Gyro what are your thoughts? Is the Align Gyro good?
I'd get a Futaba 520 and a 9254 or BLS251 if I were buying a new gyro right now. Your results with other gyros may be good as well, thats just what I prefer.

I have purchased the OS 50 hyper engine and have 600 D blades.

Sounds good.

RE: Trex 600 nitro tips and tricks

Just finished building my Nitro Pro and I have two questions: First, on my my two run ups, the heli wanted to tilt left. I am guessing it is do to torque. Do any of you add right cyclic, and if so how?
My second question has to do with running a starter, the plug line for fueling and burning off the nitro in engine and using after-run oil at the end of flying. Do most of you pull the line to the carb nipple or do you simply use the cutoff clip and turn the engine over (and if so, how are you introducing after-run oil to the carb)? Thanks.

RE: Trex 600 nitro tips and tricks

I shut down the motor, clip the fuel line, and throw it on the shelf.

It doesn't tilt left, it translates (slides) to the left, it needs right cyclic to make it stay put in a hover and will lean a bit to the right depending on the wind direction and velocity.
Its from the tail rotor blowing the helicopter sideways. They all do it, even the full scale helis. The name for it is translating tendency.

Thanks for that info. I will adjust down 1 turn on the right and 1 turn up on left and try that setting.
