RE : Desperate Beginner
I've been flying fixed wing aircraft for close on 20 years and really enjoy. I have progressed to scale and winter builds - helps me to get away from she who must be obeyed and boring TV. This year I got the kids a Blade co-axial, and wow it flew great. We did spot landings and fly to your face without flinching. So I'm hooked and bought a Honey King 2. I reckoned this machine would get me over the winter blues until spring arrives for my nitro surge! Alas, dream on. The so called King motor had a melt down out of the box. I replaced it with a brushless motor, but no joy as the thing shudders like a clapped out washing machine.
I have a Futaba T9CP transmitter so figured a Twister 3D might fit the bill. Heck, I don't want a pile of of ARTF cheap trannies around the place. No sexist remark intended. Well, I set up the tranny on SWH1, and carefully checked all movements on low RPM. Recommendations on Throttle and Pitch curve followed, and then said, spool her up - "here she goes". Nothing. The Twister sits on high revs and makes no effort to move vertically. I might as well have a turbo hair dryer. The Twister runs smooth as silk on high revs but no lift. Frustrating and dissapointing. Any ideas where I'm going wrong. I have already tried variable pitch settings but no joy. Help Please. |

feathers55:: ... I have a Futaba T9CP ... set up the tranny on SWH1, and carefully checked all movements on low RPM. First, you shouldn't spin up the rotor to check your controls. The controls can be checked on the bench. Just disconnect the motor from the ESC and wiggle the sticks all you want ... but don't just wiggle the sticks and say it's good because a servo moved. Verify that the swash is in fact moving correctly for the command you are giving. Second, what is your blade pitch readings at low, mid, and hi stick? If you are getting plenty of RPM but now lift ... your pitch is probably incorrect. Is the pitch going positive when you give forward collective or is it going negative pitch. If going negative, the pitch FUNCTION needs reversed ... that's the pitch FUNCTION not the pitch CHANNEL. What version of the 9C ... (A) or (H)??? |

You win the prize. You are spot on. The Heli is CCPM and I switched from SWH1 to SR-3. The Heli now lifts. I sure got it wrong and thank you for your advice and putting me right. Of course Murphy's law, a storm is brewing up outside which precludes me from a trial hover. Back to the G3 sim where all the helis work just fine.
I do disconnect the motor to check correct servo movements, but with the wrong programme I was going nowhere. My futaba tranny is a T9CP Super. I don't see any A or H ?? |

ORIGINAL: feathers55:: ... My futaba tranny is a T9CP Super. I don't see any A or H ?? Sorry ... didn't realize the manual shows three versions ... 9CAP, 9CHP, and 9CP (plus the F versions). I can't say that I've ever seen a 9CP. |
RE: RE : Desperate Beginner
Ok ... does the movement of the collective/throttle stick go bumpty-bumpty |
RE: RE : Desperate Beginner
Smooth as silk. Can't wait to give it a burn tomorrow. Now where did I put that glass of wine ? Thanks for your help, and I'll keep you posted.
