well if you wanna get right to flying the yeah the lama will be great for you especially if your LHS stocks parts, if you wanna skip right to single rotor helis you can use a sim and practice on there (spend ALOT of time) then get the HoneyBee Fixed Pitch, its a very durable heli and good for beginners. heres a look at it [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9kVtTeJHqTA]My HBFP Guide[/link]

well the lama is a good heli for the beginner.. it has dual blades.. top/bottom which make it very easy to fly.. you will almost be able to fly it right out of the box. the only thing is it is not much of an outdoor heli.. a little bit of wind will take it..

so it all depends on what you want.. if you want a indoor heli then it is not bad.. hobby stores tend to be much higher in price though.

now if you want an outdoor heli then go for something like the honeybee fp.. now these are a little tuffer to learn on.. but the parts are cheap and they are easy to fix.. i'm sure a lot more guys will chime in here.. but again,,it's all what you want the heli for.. the lama is really not that fast of a heli either but it will give you good training on how the sticks work. no matter which one you get you are going to get hooked and buy something bigger better. the bigger the heli,,the easier it is to fly.

for more fun i would go with the honeybee fp.. i believe it comes with a simulator cable and you can download a free simualtor online for more practice... here is an excellent place to buy one from... they are very fast shippers and have excellent customer service.jake.

thanx for the input. is there a good heli for outdorrs and indoors. if a heli is good for outdorrs is it good for indoors. my local hobby store suggested the lama heli because they have all the parts there and its really easy to fly. is the honeybee a hard helicopter to fly or can i just learn in about a week or so. i just want somthing thats durable and fun. i have some flying expierence with a airhogs reflex. it has dual rudders and little ducted fans for turning. it is easy to hover is that wat the lama 4 would be like minus the ducted fans.

Lol a week, noooooooo

On a coaxial ie blade cx2 or lama, maybe in a week or to you wont be crashing much as they are like trainer heli`s

One thing to fiurst learn with flying rc heli`s is it takes tiume, money and a lot of practice and patience

RE: help choosing one

when i say learn in a week i ment more like hovering and basic manovers nothing like the expierenced people can do

RE: help choosing one

thats still a maybe, it depends on how you go about it, if you spend alot of time on the sim first then you will be able to hover the HBFP in a week, but thats about it. It takes alot of flight time and sim time to really get the hang of it. You may pick it up fast, but don't get yourself all hyped up by thinking this will be easy because its not and when you don't meet your own expectations it might discourage you, just look at it like "I'm gonna fly this no matter how long it takes" :D

thanx. ive been thinking still about the lama vs the honney bee and im leaning towards the honeybee. my friends lama should arrive wednesday and ill see how i like it. ill let him ruin it and then think about buying one depending on quality and price to fix. is a honeybee expensive to fix and hows that quality.

i hear alot of people say find somone whos expierenced near you. any ideas how to track somone down for help?

Coyote64 03-02-2008 01:35 PM

RE: help choosing one

The best idea is to get info on local flying club near you, or if your lucky on here.

I have just joined my local club and one of their members has training equipment and experiance and hes going to teach me cp and 3d, and the best thing is he will do it all for free :D

He said he just wants more to get into sport so would be happy to. Just like the forums in this sport, everyones there to help you out, because it sometimes gets real hard and complicated

If you start with coaxial, then in a week i would be happy with hovering in a controlled area safely, but the rest ie orientation fast forward flights etc takes a lot longer

RE: help choosing one

the honeybee is easy and cheap to fix.. but it is going to take longer then a week to even hover... for most people anyway.. i have been in this hobby 6 months and still have trouble hovering sometimes.. single axil helis are the hardest to fly but much more fun once you get them..

you can check out here for some help near you,,, just put in your zip code,, then the same page will come back,,scroll down and you should see afew places near you... i would get the honeybee over the lama.. it is harder but cooler.. you will get tired of the lama real quick..they are just too easy to fly and limited on their performance..

RE: help choosing one

the hovering varies between everyone, I could hover on my first battery (after lots of sim time) and do controlled hovers on my 3rd battery, everyone is different.

But as far as parts, the HBFP is prob the cheapest heli to have to repair, theres only 4 parts that break in crashes usually and most are $2 parts. And its a very simple design, I put one together in 10min, from all parts to fully assembled ARTF. thats how simple these are :D

wow that cheap i saw your crash video and it was ten bucks i thought u had just gotten lucky with a minor crash. thanks for the locating website for som clubs it really helped me out i think once i buy one i will join s club. i called my local hobby store and they have the hb helicopter for $150!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i saw one website for $100 i think ill buy it online. what spare parts should i buy with it?

RE: help choosing one

this is the HoneyBee Fixed Pitch that I fly [link=http://www.ka-planes.com/inc/sdetail/2577]$99.99[/link], and thats where I bought mine, great guys there, and you can call them up anytime during store hours or email after hours, The HBKII is a diiferent kind of heli there, its a collective pitch requires alot of set-up time as well as upgrades and would never have survived that crash, that crash for me was alot of damage, i don't usually break 3 things in 1 crash :)

cool 100 dollars thats great. i think ill buy it in about a week or so.

and if you can buy an extra battery, extra rotor head, extra outer paddle control frame, or actually [link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYdpuM0WKtc]watch this[/link]

RE: help choosing one

out of curiosity what does fixed pitched mean

nuttcaze 03-02-2008 04:43 PM

RE: help choosing one

Fixed pitch refers to the blades and the angle\pitch of them as they swing around, fixed pitch means the blades are always tilted or positive pitch, thats means give it throttle it goes up. A collectivepitch (CP) allows you to change the pitch\angle of the blades, you can give them + or - pitch, negative pitch pushed the heli down but thats why they're also called 3D helis cause you can fly them upside down and instead of the negative pitch pulling the heli down it'll push it up, then you're flying upside down :D

RE: help choosing one

If only it is as easy to do as your explaination is to read :D

Apparently though, from reading forum, it seems that fp is harder to get to grips with than cp for some bizarre reason

I cant comment on fp birds, but i can say moving from coaxial to cp is a scary move, watch this space for results lol

mr. ilikehelp 03-02-2008 05:50 PM

RE: help choosing one

ohh i see know so when you get into expensive helicopters you can fly upside down.

i was looking at parts for the honneybee and i was wondering if i should by the training setfor my heli?

Coyote64 03-02-2008 06:02 PM

RE: help choosing one

A CP heli ( upside down one) is in electrical terms the most expensive, but of course they are FP heli`s that cost more, it all depends on size and radio equipment really

As for running, in theory running a cp bird and trying to fly upside down would be more expensive due to not flying upside down right, as just apposed to flying right way up only

Cost depends on model, ability, how quick you pick it up

I think that when i get totally to grips with cp heli, it still wont stand me as much as repairs to coaxial when i first started and had the steepest part of learning curve to master, this of course does not inclued first layout of heli just repairs to them

RE: help choosing one

I don't think they're necessary if you go slow and follow so tutorials like RADDs or the one at [link=http://www.ka-planes.com/hovering_101_]Ka-Planes[/link], but the training gear is cheap too, do you have lots of space like a garage or not?
