Need advice on setup

I'm a beginning heli pilot, and have a Black Hawk 450SE(Trex clone). I fly it with a DX7 radio. I have it trimmed out,and it hovers well, but if I just give it the slightest nudge of forward cyclic,it takes off like a bat out of (you know where)[X(]! How can I "soften up" the controls for this heli. Do I go into the swash program and reduce the numbers, and do they (ail/ele/pit all have to be the same? Or go into the ATV program and cut the servo travel down? I have the exponental set on the ail/elev set at 20%+ right now. Should I increase the expo, and leave the servo travel alone? I don't have any experenced(or any heli pilots, period) in my area to help with the set up. I just want the heli to fly smooth and slow(read/not tear out like a dragster) while I'm learning,to fly FF. Also the idle up feature scares the (@$%$#) out of me.I figure sooner,or later I'm gonna hit the switch by accident. Is there any way I can program it out of the heli? I know this is allot of questions, but you guy's are about my ONLY source of information. Thanks,Ron

Swash menu, lower the ail and ele numbers a bit at a time or set up a low rate for your aileron and elevator.

Don't mess with the individual servo end points or your ccpm setup will be whacked

Thanks,Andy! Can I also run more expo. on the ail/ele channels too? This heli is touchey(for me a beginner). Ron

Yep. Positive expo for JR/Spectrum to soften the center a bit, start with 25 percent.

Can't help with the set up but can offer some safety advise. Have the same BH450SE and it is a hot rod after moving up from a coax a couple of weeks ago. Still struggling with it. Anyway for safety's sake, tape the idle up down with tape and MAKE SURE that you use the throttle hold switch when you are handling the heli. I spent an hour and half in the emergency room last night getting my arm cleaned up and bandaged after the blades ate my arm up. Got careless and started to pick up the heli, had the tx in my left hand and apparently came in contact with the throttle. Doesn't take long to turn loose of a heli spinning up in your hand. Heli rolled over on right side and floundered. Bent the spindle shaft about 35 degrees on one side. Waiting on parts now from KA-PLANES. Good luck and enjoy.

Thanks, guy's! The heli hovers rock solid, but when I go into FF,it REALLY goes into FFF, this should tame it down a notch,or two. Ron:) Razorbk, yeah they can really hurt ya! I have the habit of hovering too close to myself (from flying coaxil heli's,and a HBFP). I really need to keep the heli farther away from me. Ron

Also, if you haven't already, use weights on the flybar all the way out to the paddles. Heavier paddles will also soften up your cyclic.

Good luck!

Thanks, the weights would be a good idea. I just want it to fly smoothly, while I'm in the learning stage of flying it. Ron
