Default Flying in overcast/rainy weather

Hi guys

It seems the rainy season is back as winter is on its way soon. Can you fly in light rain?? or is it def no no.

The weather could stay bad here for a few months. What do you guys do through the rainy season to keep your flying skills up besides the sim? (move to a sunny country!!!)

Any ideas

I've seen videos of people flying in the rain and never had a problem, personally myself, I wouldn't do it. Radio gear can do funny things if it gets wet, I found out the hard way [&o], I have an RC boat.

Ya, I live in a wet climate, if you can protect the radio gear and TX not a problem if you like to get wet.

Make sure no water can get into any electronics (both in heli and in transmitter). You might be surprised how much water can get into the canopy with just flying around, not to mention backwards and/or inverted. Some metal parts on the heli are prone to rusting as well.

I always stop flying when rain gets more than just a very slight drizzle

Water will wreak havoc on your electronics, especially the receiver. I had a float plane so I know from experience!

And yes, things like the flybar tend to rust easily, as do the main shafts and screws. I'd keep it away from water if I was you.

We wait for the rain to stop. A little lite mist wont hurt anything. As long as it doesn't get soaked with water. Generally speaking water is not good for the radio gear. A friend of mine took his stuff out in the wet weather and he now always has moisture under the LCD screen. I don't know if it hurt anything because his radio still works OK but I'm sure it can't be good.

I will fly glow planes in the rain since the radio stuff is fairly well sealed under the covering, but I won't fly my helis in the rain. It's just not worth the risk IMO.
