Which side of the lining?
 

I recently burned my clutch lining, and bought a new one. The new lining is so tight that won't allow me to even start the engine without the blades turning.

I going to put the on the old clutch bell in with a new lining. The question is -- which side of the lining (smooth with writting or the reverse) goes against the clutch bell?

What to use? Epoxy or JB weld?

Hopefully, I will be doing my first nose in this weekend :)

Usually I turn down my lining to get them true and with the right clearance. In your case the lining was just to thick, and or you used to much glue. You can use JB or epoxy to gule a lining in.

let me clarify the question.
I bought a JR clutch bell lining. Its sides are distinctive. One of the sides is smooth and has some writting on it. The other side is slightly rougher without any writting.

Does it matter which side you glue to the bell lining?

JB weld is an epoxy, isn't it?

JBW is epoxy with some metal in it. Use it. Very thin layer on the smooth side. Rough side to shoe. Did you wrap 2 turns of elect tape around the shoe and use it to press the lining? leave it 5 mins. then pull it, turn 90 deg and push it back in. Should be very snug but not hard. leve to dry 15 min. Pull shou out and remove tape. look for any excess glue that has pushed out onto the bell surfaces and cut/dremel it away. Shoe should fit well with possibly a little drag at first. Just hhold the head, engine shold still run. Clutch will wear in.

I was wondering why people were using the electrical tape!! I put the Tape on my Clutch with new liner and couldn't see how the motor would turn with the clutch that tight to the Bell. So now I see that your are just using the tape to mold the liner!!! Than once the liner has dried you remove the Tape to give you the correct clearance!!! Now that makes a alot more since!!!
