helicopter radios

Hey everyone i was trying to decide on a 2.4ghz radio for my heli and was hoping for some input on some. I was thinking about a spektrum dx7s or a dx8. Right now im learning but eventualy i would like to step up to nitro. Ive read a million things on both but im not sure whatone to look into? Also do i have to have certain servos? Because i see that on horizonhobby they sell both with or without servos and im not sure? I know that a radio is one of the most important parts so i want to make the right choice. So i could use some advice.

Thanks

If you are only interested in flying helis, I wouldnt get a RX/TX kit that comes with servos.  You most likely would never use them in a heli.  But, if you ever plan on getting into planes as well...then I would.

The DX7 or 8 should serve you fine with whatever helis you get into.  I have a 7 and fly anything from my mSR up to Raptor 50 with it...and its fine.

Glad you asked first instead of, "I just bought ____ but it wont ____, what should I get now?" :)

In general, get the best radio you can afford, it will be with you for a long time.

The DX7s is a bit of a step backwards from the original DX7 and takes some functionality away.

I'd personally go with the 8 especially if you want to fly nitro helis now or at some point.

Servos, probably better to get them separately, requirements vary depending on what heli you're going to fly and the DS821's that ship with most stock systems are about worthless for helis.

I run the AR6100 on both of my 450 helicopters. Started out with using AR7000 w/remote...but thought it was overkill to start and then the more reading I did online seemed that people were fine with usingthe 6100's on 450 size and smaller helis.

If you want more redundancy you could go with ar6200 or 7000 (or whatever their new X series replacements). Its just I cant see myself ever flying the 450 out of range of a 6100...so I kept cost down and went with that and used my 7000's on some larger gas airplanes I have in the hangar.
