3D out of the box?

update:

left them several messages, they never called back...
finally got a hold of them a week later (today), they told me they tried to call me, which is impossible, because i would have seen it on caller ID.
they still have the parts (1 week-> that is no short turnaround)
didn't get to take the stripped spindle off the head (both nuts are on and I do not know how to take it off)
asking them to take that part apart, they said it would be an other week "until they get to it... they are very busy"
very arrogant person on the phone and not helpful at all... could not explain why they broke off or stripped, except to much torque. (well i guess it is to much torque, but does that make me feel better... no)
mentioned that the instructions "suck" and does not say anything about how much play etc..., response "no there are instructions..."
they will send it out today (unrepaired), with one (not three) spindle and a new swash plate.
the tech did not comment on the play of the swash plate "but he would like to send me out a new one regardless"

so, their customer service BLOWS BIG TIME...
the turnaround was two weeks (incl wrong address and me leaving endless messages and trying to get a hold of them) who knows how long it would have been if i would have not checked in at all...
will I put more money toward ACE, no... and if it crashes... i might just leave it where it went down (well i'll take the engine and electronics...)
i might just fly it with the stripped spindle, of course no close buy hovering for safety reasons, i really do not know how to get it off, except during the flight... (and the tech could not tell me neither, he didn't even notice that it was on.... until i told him...)

i understand there is thousands of happy flying rappy customers out there (but maybe not that happy after all or until they put $400,- worth on upgrades on it...) but i am not.
it seems that ACE has a serious problem with quality control (just look at their engines) and training of there customer support staff.
i also understand this is one of the cheapest helis out there and you get what you pay for. so i learned my lesson...
i'd rather pay $200 or $300 more when i buy it and be in the air by day one then dealing with this crap again.
so i am done with ACE...
again, THIS IS JUST MY EXPERIENCE with them. this might be a great flying heli and make lot's of people happy, maybe my standards are higher than the average (i do not mean to insult any one with this comment) or maybe i am just to strong...
i am sure ACE is doing everything possible to keep their market share, but i am sure their funds are limited with delivering "low budget" products (which is great to get new people in this hobby)

well, that's all... and i am sure it will be a great moment when those blades come off at 150ft altitude... :) maybe i should bring me video cam...

cheers

3D out of the box?

Flmgrip,

Check out the building review of Kirks on the latest version of the Century Falcon SEV2 at the top of this Helicopter forum. You will see why those of us who have them not only find them truely "3D out of the box" but also "precision" out of the box. In fact mine is so slop free (after 14 gallons of fuel) that I use it to practice FAI sched A and B along with 3D. It comes with composite blades etc. so if you add that to the cost of Raptor 50 and a few of the other items that would be required to bring the Raptor 50 into the same class, the Falcon's price would prove to be a lot less.

But the Falcon has a much better head, power and clutch system, tail rotor system, tail drive system (Carbon Fiber torque tube) etc. etc.

A real gem. It would be worth your time to check it out.

Well when I had my 30,
And my buddy has a rappy 50.
I upgraded the swash plate , a arms ,this that .
And the list goes on.
I understand what you are saying.Yes there is a big diffrents in price, but you get what you payed for.
I like the Rappy. When it came out.
But JR and the Calibra ,might put the Rappy to rest.
Both of them are ccpm and are both arf's for the same price.

Minair is coming out with a Minny Fury 30 . From what I heard it will be out next year.
So Rappy need to become ccpm real quick...

Ron,
It's perfectly OK you spent a lot of time and money upgrading your raptor 30, but it's unnecessary, as you already know from watching my two machines fly. The stock raptor 30 will do just about every trick in the book, and do it week after week without any problems. And in the raptor, you get more than you pay for. My two machines and all the machines at our field just keep on flying with very little maintenance.

Thanks have a good day. :tired: :disappoin

Hi Ron,
I'm sorry, maybe I'm not being clear, you stated that "out of the box for 3D" the raptor was not any good, or in your exact words, just "NO", was the answer. Then, you had mentioned all the upgrades you put on your machine, including the words, "and the list goes on". Reading that seems to definitely suggest to me, and I'm sure to any other beginner, "which is who we all are trying to help", that the raptor is poor at best for 3d.
So, to be more to the point, it's impossible for you to have an opinion on the 3d capabilities of the raptor, since you are not flying 3D yet. Plus, obviously you've seen all the guy's at our field flying 3D with a stock machine, including Paul with my machine, Therefore, I suggest the reason for you "unhappiness" with the raptor is setup rather than the quality of the machine. Please feel free to discuss this with me. Maybe I can help you out.
