RE: Show us your first helicopter

My first was the original blue canopied Hirobo Shuttle from 1986 that had an OS28FSRH heli engine. I equipped it with a GMP mechanical gyro and a Futaba Gold heli radio using S-148 servos.

This was followed by my first 60 size, also in 1986 - the Schluter Superior with the OS61FSRH engine. In those days we even had to assemble, balance and cover the wood blades supplied in the kits.

This is not a picture of mine, but mine was exactly like that one. MFA Sport 500 back in 1989. Used all my summer and part of my winter job earnings (High School Student) to be able to buy it.

in 1994 got me a Concept 30DX similar to the one BH has in his picture.

And I will bet you found your learning curve improved substantially with the Concept 30?

I had one of these in the summer of 1983. I think two of the four attempts to hover resulted in a helicopter that I could still use.

I wrote something a while back for beginners. I said "My first RC helicopter was an American RC Revolution 40. After messing with that a few years I set it aside and got back into helis when I got a great deal on a Concept 30. I immedately went from R/C helicopter owner, to R/C helicopter pilot.

:)

That's not MY copter just a picture of the type a GMP Cricket. GMP was THE BOOMING heli mfg in the 80's. More can be learned here:

http://www.1017.org/cricket/

I picked up RC choppers again in the mid 90's with a LMH 110+. I still have that one, and it is flyable.

My first was an Art-tech Falcon 3D from Hobby Lobby... It was really a great machine.... I think it had more crashes than the crash-test-dummy... lol Still have all the electronics out of it. It met its demise when my daughter wanted to fly it and I had bought a Raptor 30. She just hit it full collective and it shot into the air like a rocket....crashed....I taped some stuff...she did the same thing then it was destroyed....lol

Schluter Mini-Boy. Son's first helicopter. Bought it used. He was probably the 3rd or 4th owner, so the thing was pretty tired. OS.45 could just barely get it into a hover:
