Which Gyro to choose ?
I'm looking to upgrade may old Morely dual rate gyro for a Heading Hold type. Has anybody got any suggestions as to which gyro to choose ?
The gyro will be fitted into a Hawk SE (30) with fuselage and I do not intend to fly 3D. The radio gear I'm using is an old JR Apex 6 channel FM set which still works very well so I do not plan to upgrade it. I've seen good reports on the Futaba GY401 gyro. Would this work with my JR radio ? Should I be thinking of getting a special tail servo with a heading hold gyro ? (at present I use a standard JR NES 517) |
RE: Which Gyro to choose ?
Futaba GY401 + 9253 servo combo.
The best bang you'll get for the buck......... and I've banged alot. |
RE: Which Gyro to choose ?
This is my order from the best to OK-
Gy601- perfect for hard 3-d flying extreme tail holding power - price around 350 w/servo Gy502- good performer and has adjustability for tail end points- price around 250 w/servo GY401- great for beginners easy to use- price around 200 w/servo I have used all of them and the GY601 is my favorite for 3-D flying. |

I have ued the 401 in the hawk and loved it, I have also used the 240 gyro in the Hawk and it performed great I like the 401 better as you can turn off the hh from the radio wich is great when flying 3d.

The 401 combo will do anything you want to do. There are a lot of really experienced guys using them. If you have more money to blow, you can go to a bigger one, but I know a lot of guys who traded 502s for 401s.
