Freya purchase question
Hi all,
Been flying airplanes for a while and now have a chance to get a deal on a heli... I think. I thought someone here could give me a "yay" or "no way" for this deal. It is a Freya with a YS 61. It comes with carbon fiber blades and a blade bag. It came in 3rd at the last Hirobo Cup at our field. It does not come with any electronics but I bought the Futaba 9252 servos that were in it. I was going to use them in a plane but they would go right back in if I bought this heli. He is a fellow club member and overall a nice guy. He wants $600. Any thoughts? I understand this may not be the best beginner heli, but let me know if you think this seems to be a good deal. Thanks. |
RE: Freya purchase question
I've got a Freya X-spec which is an upgraded version of that heli. The standard Freya flies great and will serve you well, even as a trainer.
The fact that it came in third in a contest means nothing. Unless it is heavily upgraded, it is the same as every other Freya. Careful building is important, but winning a contest doesn't indicate additional value like it might in an airplane. The $600 price is not a steal. A brand new kit is just over $400. If the guy will help you set it up and teach you to fly, that's a real plus. You're going to love helis... Tom |
RE: Freya purchase question
Thanks, Tom.
Yeah, I figured the placement wasn't a big factor... other than maybe pilot skill. I was hoping maybe someone here remembered if they were at the contest. Thanks again! |

FREYA YS61 Push/Pull Collective, EX Radius Slider &Block,Carbon Fin Set&Push Rod. T.T Main Blades,Carbon Tail Blades,W.C Deacals Thanks for any thoughts. |
RE: Freya purchase question
Sounds great to me.
Don't worry about it being an advanced heli. It is probably easier to flythan a trainer, and it is a whole lot easier to make the freya act like a trainer than it is to make a trainor act like freya. The only down side is the repair and flight costs are higher, but you can start with wood blades to keep expeneses down. Try the raptor 60 wood blades. not great blades, but if you keep the head speed down and take it easy they should work fine. LOTS of time on the simulayor will save you tons of money and time. I just bought a freya to build, haven't flown it yet but everyone says its the best. |

RE: Freya purchase question
Sweet!
Luck Be sure to get experienced help, and spend a lot of time on the simulator. The controlls are a lot like the airplanes in function, but actuall flying is very different, if the heli gets going sideways or backwards, it can get hairy real quick. One step at a time. |
