How many shims?

How many shims should I put in my c-clip head running 700mm blades , flying 3-D?

How many shims?

Paul,

MA now has three shim thicknesses. Thin, thicker, thickest (part #'s on the website).

The model flies fine with a single thin, or one or two of the thicker ones (which I think equal one of the thickest), or even one of the thickest shims. With increasing shim humber you will increase the responsiveness of the head AND decrease pitch up in the wind. The limiting factor with over shimming is the induction of a mast bump when hover below 1500 rpm. You can also see the bump/wobble at the bottom of an auto as the head speed bleeds off at flare. I'd experiment with one of the middle shims first and see how the model feels, then install the thickest one (remove the other) and compare. Personal preference is in play here.

Not too evasive an answer, I hope.
