Heli Fuel Differences
Does anyone know what the difference is between regular Cool Power 15% and CP 15% Heli fuel? Their site says both use 17% high viscosity oil but does say anything else. My lhs doesn't stock much in the way of heli fuel but does have plenty of regular 15% CP and I'm almost out. I usually buy it by the case when I'm in the Chicago area or the twin cities, MN but I haven't been there lately. Anyone have experience using regular 15% CP.
Thanks, Mike |
RE: Heli Fuel Differences
Good question Mike, I thought heli fuel had more oil by volume to carry out the heat and produced more smoke than plank fuel. I thought CP 30% had 22% oil. When I run it in my YS120 on a plank it looks like I have a smoke system installed.

RE: Heli Fuel Differences
That's what I thought. I just re-checked the Morgan site. All of the regular CP blends have 17% oil. The 15% heli has 17% oil, the 20% heli has 20% oil and the 30% heli does indeed have 22% oil. But it doesn't say what other differences there are. I picked up the only gallon of Wildcat 15% nitro my lhs had and it seems to run better in my OS 50 than the CP. I've used Wildcat before in my Hawk Sport/TT36 and thought it ran very well but my lhs didn't stock much of this. The only other Wildcat heli fuel they currently have is 30% which is overkill in my case. My lhs only places an order for fuel every few months or so because of the cost of shipping so I don't know how long it will be before they have what I need.
If anyone has an answer to the question, I'd appreciate it. I also have an email into Morgan. If I hear anything I'll let you know. Thanks, Mike |
RE: Heli Fuel Differences
Interesting... I didn't realize CP had a "helicopter" line of fuels... I've just been buying regular CP15% at a local heli shop (where the Quick Helis are assembled, actually, Hobbies & Helis in Coopersburg, PA). Looks like there's no difference between the standard CP15% and the CP Heli 15%, but if I go up in nitro content, I'll be sure to get the heli version of CP.
BTW, Did you notice that the CP Heli 30% had 22% of low viscosity oil, not high viscosity oil like the others?? |
RE: Heli Fuel Differences
Well, maybe there isn't any difference. I think I'm going to try some regular 15% CP and see how it runs. Yes, I did notice that the 30% heli has the lower viscosity lube. Interesting.

RE: Heli Fuel Differences
For the thousanth time, there is no difference. They are the same fuel. Just a different label.
and before anyone asks, they all cost the same, if your LHS charges more, it is not Morgans fault. Also, Wildcat fuels are the same. 15% heli is the same as 15% 2&4 cycle, just a different label. |

for the 1001st time
Coolpower 15% and Coolpower 15% heli are the same! My source: Morgan Fuels...I used to live 2 miles away from the factory where it is made in Enterprise, AL. The Enterprise, AL hobby shop, Red Baron Hobby, is around the block from Morgan Fuels. |
RE: Heli Fuel Differences
When you say the prices are the same, is that only when the nitro content is the same? At my LHS, the 15% is $13, and the 30% HELI is $20.

RE: Heli Fuel Differences
They are just saying CP 15% with the "heli" designation is same as the regular CP 15% as far as the lube type and percentage goes... however, a 15% nitro fuel would have less nitro than a 30% nitro fuel and would be cheaper...
