Help
I have a Heli-Max micro piezo gyro. That has killed two JR PS331 servos. Could I have done some thing wrong two trash two tail servos. The second servo only lasted about 10 to 15 flights. I made sure that it was not over driving the servo. It was not binding. I was in a hover and the tail started wagging, so I tried to adjust by turning down the gain. This did not help. Next thing I knew I had no tail control at all. Any ideas? The gyro really seemed to shorten the throws on the servo this I never liked. IS IT THE GYRO? OR MY SET UP? WRONG SERVO FOR THE JOB? PLEASE HELP. |
Helimax
The Gyro is a piece of cr@p i had one and it failed in flight causing a hard left uncontrolled spin. Get a futaba I have the 401 and the tail is rock steady.

The gyro did not fail, but two tail servos.
Question is, is there any way to prove that this is a servo killer. My money is very limited, I will be grounded until Christmas before I could replace the gyro. I could be in the air soon if I just replace the servo, but a servo every 10 to 15 flights sucks. |

I wonder if this would work... remove both gyro and servo from heli. Hook up the gyro and servo to a battery and radio. Set the gyro on something that rotates/vibrates constantly. Turn everything on and wait and see if it kills the servo.
Just an idea... |

You may want to try a quality high speed servo on the tail. If there is any vibration in the heli the piezo gyro is going to work the tail servo very hard. Most std servos are not made for this and burn out in a short time. You have to make a decision. A cheap servo for U$20 every 15 flights or a quality servo like the Futaba 9253 for U$80 that lasts a lot longer. If you are really tight with $ try a HS525 for U$30, it's a little better. But in the end I'd still go with the Futaba 401 gyro and 9253 servo combo for U$185. It only takes one crash when the tail rotor dies to cost more than the new gyro.

Thanks you give me something to go on, and think about. Its in a LMH thats why I went with a cheap GYRO, and micro servos. The JR 331 servos run about $28. HITECH $18 But after replacing servos a few times there not cheap ether. I hear the Hitch strip gears often. I think your right I think I need to look for a servo made to handle gyro abuse. Joe |
