shogun
Does anyone have any experience yet with the new Shogun? I've flown helis, off and on for 20 years, the last being a LiteMachines. It's OK, enjoy it, but without collective, well,,,
I find a small heli to be appealing for its compatibility with more off field flying sites, 'specially an electric. Am tempted to get back into helis but I'd like to make a choice that will sustain me for a few years. Really can't afford to constantly upgrade as you might get with a lot of new machines that come on the market. |
RE: shogun
The price of the Shogun 400 with on-board electronics is $400. The price of a good glow powered 30 size heli is around $360.......

RE: shogun
Have a look in the electric heli section of the forum, there are a number of threads talking about this heli. It's also known as the Zoom 400...
|
RE: shogun
The spare parts of a raptor 30 seems cheaper too......

RE: shogun
I've been looking at the Shogun as well. I fly several nitro helis but want an indoor performance heli. The fact that it may fly in light winds makes it even more appealing. I am going to IRCHA saturday and will try to get additional info and maybe a little hands on if I can. I'll report back if I find out anything. Pics if I buy one:D

RE: shogun
Thanks guys.
Will check the E-heli forum. Yes, glow can be cheaper but I need the quiet and reliability of electric for off field flying sites. Matt, I'd be interested to know if the Shogun can be made more stable and then re-tuned for aerobatics. |
RE: shogun
Upgrading the blades would make it more stable but bare in mind that is is a fast heli , not for restricted size backyards.
go to www.protech.be and download two very nice movies of the Zoom 400 (same as Shogun 400). |
RE: shogun
I wouldnt say that, it handles fine in my back yard, its speed can be a bit disconcerting in the begining, its very fast, but if I had to choose between a new 30 size model or the zoom/shogun, it would be the zoom, its just more useful given the weather in this country, and when its not storm force 7 outside its definatly outdoors capable

RE: shogun
Leon,
What setup do you have in your 400 (servos, gyro, esc, motor, batt, rx)? Are you running a brushed or brushless motor? |
RE: shogun
Im using the protech electronics package, but will be upgrading to a brushless, and to a HLG200 (stripped down one)
|
RE: shogun
any pics of your heli? I have just mastered a micro GWS DragonFly and was thinking of getting the Zoom, however, it's almost the same price as a Kyosho Caliber 30.....What radio are using to fly it? What on-line shop would you suggest in the UK? Did you get a good "deal"?
|
RE: shogun
No pics, butim using the FF8, I would buy from Midland helicopters (look in the new items section)
|
RE: shogun
I will probably buy my next heli from Midland helicoptres too. They have given me very good private and sincere advice. Have you downloaded the movies from www.protech.be , they clearly demonstrate that the Zoom/Shogun is not a beginner's heli......Ask Midland for a good deal, i will do that myself too:D
|
RE: shogun
Yeah Ive seen them
Can you do me a favor, tell them I recomended them, maybe they will give me a discount (ordering some things in the next few days) ;) |
RE: shogun
I didn't see a single Shogun or Zoom heli at IRCHA. I heard there was one there but it was just another pilots personal heli. No dealers or reps that I found[:o]
Sorry I can't give any more info! Matt |
