RE: Whiteman Training stand

I had one and did'nt like it. I did much better when I used normal training gear. It seemed way to restrictive and gave me a false sense of control. Just my 2 cents

I made my training gear out of a pair of dowels and some whiffle balls for only a few bucks... it worked great. I can't understand why people want to waste money on premade gear or these training "stands"...

I had one of those stands long time ago.
Not only restricts the natural heli movements but the heli reacts in a very different way from real life because although it allows it to lift from the ground, the forward translation is forced to become a circle. Any lateral cyclic control inputs, since they are totally restricted, result in unpredictable gyroscopic induced effects.
Stick to a training landing gear with four wiffle balls, at least the heli will behave in a normal manner and you will learn much faster, specially if you receive advice from an instructor from your club.
