I think you should get what you can get parts for, help, and what fits your flying objective.

The two birds fly the same. I have flown both quite a bit and to be honest it's a toss up. Both make EXCELLENT first 60s and they are a blast to fly.

There are alot of Freya owners on this board so you might ask the question on RR. I have nothing against a Freya but I think alot of people don't give the Raptor 60 any credit. Many relate the problems of the R30 to the R60. It is night and day different. The R60 is about as problem free as they come.

Their is a 90 option for it allowing up to 710mm blades, the mechs fit in a quite a few scale projects, and there are TONS of nice upgrade options to dress it up. The tail is shaft driven and the Raptor has the advantage in power/weight.

If I had $500 in hand and had to choose between the 2 I would go for the Raptor 60 again. Either way you aren't making a bad choice and that is what counts!

I like my Freya but I like the collective pitch arm on the Raptor. If cost is a factor, some of the Freya parts seem to be a bit expensive but I see the Freya kit has come down in price at some locations. A buddy has a Raptor 60 with a glass canopy that is real nice. He has become a great pilot with that thing. I know a guy that had both and he said he actually liked the Raptor better. The only 3 things I don't like about the Freya is the collective pitch arm, the stock switch location, and the way the canopy attaches. I like the hex shaped tail boom but it is expensive to replace.

The freya and R60 do not fly the same. They have very different feels to them and the Freya has more axial rolls and straighter loops. For flying the Freya is way better. The only area that the R60 beats the Freya is initial cost and replacement parts cost. The R60 still has issues even after TT has the V2. Both have a ,91 option...

Lift- there are alot of freya fliers on RR too...

I know there is one 60 sized plastic heli out there and I thought it was the Freya.... So which one is plastic? I know th Raptor 60 is metal.

The R60 is part aluminium and plastic. The fFreya is plastic. BUT... the plastic in the R60 is crap and the plastic in the Freya is carbon impregnated nylon, big difference. Most chinese kits use the crap plastic and most japanese kits use higher quality plastic, in fact that goes for most of the materials and the quality of the molds etc...While the Freya costs more you do get a much higher quality product.

What part of the R60 is plastic? Crap plastic is fine as long as it isn't in a place were crap plastic is bad.

The servo screws would come loose in the holes because of the poor quality plastic, I think it would be better if they stayed tight. The landing gear attachment and all the frame spacers and bearing holders are plastic. If you've seen a true metal helo you would realize the R60 isn't one.

I own a Raptor 50, not a Raptor 60.


I don't get to see very many helis where I live at. Just my raptor, and one other pilots R30. I did how ever get to see a Raptor 60 about 4 months ago... I was 10 feet away from it. I have seen an Ergo from a few feet, though.

I think I've only ever touched 5 types of helis... EVER. One R50, two R30s, one Concept 30SX, one Xcell 46, and one Ergo 60.

Hard to find REALLY good pics on the net. And I am only going off what I remember hearing. At least I knew that the Freya was plastic. I've heared it's good but the plastic is bad. I've also heared the R60 is completely differnt from the R30/50 and it is a much better design.

Like I said the Freya has a carbon reinforced nylon kind of plastic, like the airplane props use...not the flexible milk jug plastic the Raptors use...

This topic is heading south. I left off of it when Evan disagreed about the two helis not flying similar. Yes, the are slightly different but not enough to say the Freya is sooooo much better than the Raptor 60. Fact is they fly the SAME!

I will say this though, if you know how to setup a heli you can make any heli fly the way you want.

Oh yeah, TT is in Taiwan. So, that exempts them from the notion that since they are made in China they are cheap. :D

Everyone just enjoy their own brand, share their experiences, and play nice.

By the way props are made out of reinforced NYLON, not plastic.


I can see some problems with the frame spacers being plastic but the servo brackets and landing gear mount don't seem like much of a problem to me. I'm sure they have an upgrade for it but I guess that's beside the point since we are talking "out of the box."



Just curious, can you get metal upgrades for the Freya? Is the head on the Freya metal also? I really don't know.

The basic head that is one piece on the R60 is made up of three pieces on the Freya, the top part where the main blade bearings go is reinforced nylon(I still call this plastic), the up and down part the mainshaft goes into is aluminium, and the lower part that has the pins that go into the pitch slider a separate piece so you can adjust the head timing. Having adjustable timing is one of the things that make the Freya better, you can't adjust the R60. Lift, have you owned both for a decent period of time? I consider the helos made in the peoples republic of china to be chinese...Yes there are many metal upgrades, more than any other helo, made by Hirobo for the Eagle helos, they fit on the Freya and there is a higher end Freya that comes with a bunch of upgrades in the box. If you notice I never say the R60 is a bad helo, I just think the Freya is better and there are others that are better than the Freya...

The Freya is without a doubt the better heli. The Raptor cant even come close to comparisom with it. You get what you pay for. The raptors are what many people consider to be throw away helicopters.

OK, Now ya got me. Forgive my ignorance cause I thought I had a pretty good handle on this "Bell/Hiller - Gyroscopic precession" type of thing, but why do I need to "adjust" the timing of my head?

I always tell the newbies that they should not buy anything until they "Know" they need it. Now, maybe I should just sit back and wait till I suddenly realize that my head needs "adjusting". What does that feel like? :confused: Am I missing something or can't I just auger out the precision hole I have and do the adjusting on my own? :o

Their is no reason to adjust the timing unless all your gonna do is hover. Adjustable timing went out 10 yrs ago along with switch inverted flying.

Hmm, so that "really good" feature on the "really good" Freya is useless to 95% of us. Any other the "really good" features on the Freya? So far I don't see any facts telling me which one is better, just opinions which mean nothing to me unless I know or trust the individual.

I have a Raptor 60 with the OS70 engine while I can not comment on the Freya I do Like the Raptor. I have up graded mine with excel paddles rear mount tail servo. The roll rate did improve with the new paddles but the elevator is kinda sensitive. I think your question is excellent but I always find the same responses when people ask which helio, aircraft or car is better. Is a chevy better then a ford or is a ford better then a chevy. It's personal preferences. I believe all of the 60 size helios are made well. The rule of thumb is the more you spend the more you get. So your dilemma is which one is right for You. If your a proficient helio pilot I would suggest a higher end machine. If your learning I disagree that a raptor is a throw away machine. The plastic while maybe not Freya or Ergo quality will provide you with many trouble free flights and It is a simple helio to build and set up. This is just my 2cents. Which does not go as far as 2cents did 100 years ago.

The more you spend, the more you get saying is not very good. If a newbie gets an Xcell Fury Extreme 90 with a Futaba 9ZWC2 with 9252s all around and a 601 gyro with every carbon fiber upgrade known to man on board, then he's not going to get much more than a lighter wallet. I cases they wouldn't even want to start the engine, much less fly it if he spent that much on a "toy!" Well, not unless he had a rich uncle. That same newbie with a raptor 30 is going to learn MUCH faster if he only has to spend $29 a crash rather than $290 a crash.

Too bad Ace doesn't charge twice the amount for the EXACT same heli; it would be two times better. People do this all the time; I see it all the time. Take a $50 Sound Blaster PCI 16 VS a $25 Phillips 4.1 card. The Phillips blows the SB away but the SoundBlaster is twice as much. Guess which one most people buy. I think most people don't like the Raptor because it's afordable.
