Wagging the tail
 

My system is a centruy hawk sport, with an os 32sxh engine. the radio is a je xp8103 and the gyro is a gy501. My first flight was fine, I was able to hover etc. That night I charged the battery on the tx and rx.

The next day it kept on pirouetting (spinning) and from what I found out I was the reverse the gyro. This is weird because before I charged it, it was flying fine.

Now I notice it 'hunts'. As it starts to lift off, it swings back and forth. I can turn it with the tail rotor but when it stops it swings some more. It gets worse as it goes up. i have tried adjusting the control delay with no luck.

Can anyone help?

You should be adjusting sensitivity, not the delay. If you're getting a bounce back effect after doing a piro, then increase your delay untill it stops. If you're getting constant hunting, lower the sensitivity untill it stops. I'd first check all your linkages and make sure everything moves absolutely freely with no binding anywhere and make sure your tail blade grips are tight to the bearings with no slop in them caused by a loose screw (can happen sometimes after a few flights if you never used a thread locker on them). Also make sure that there is no excessive vibration reaching the gyro.

If all else fails, try a faster servo on the tail.

Gain is too high, back off some or move the servo in one hole.

How far is your ball from the spine on the servo, should be around 14mm

The optimum length of the servo arm depends on the tail rotor bellcrank geometry oo your heli.

So this distance will vary from type of heli to another. The arm length that will work well with one, may well not be the ideal length for another. e.g. a longer bellcrank arm will require a longer servo arm (distance from the center of the servo arm to the ball on the servo arm).

So you may well fnd here that a shorter servo arm length then 14mm will be better, maybe as small as 10 with increased atv setting at the gyro pot (not in the TX)

First thanks for the responses. it was indeed the gain, I adjusted it and it is flying much better now.

Now i gotta replace the rotor blades ;)
