G3 Hover Question

I had a quick question. I been flying with G3 for about 3 months I guess of and on. I still havn't took my Raptor .30 v1 out to field and flown it at all. My main question is in G3 are you suppose to be able to take off and the helicopter just hover there without touching controls? I have tryed trimming it out the best I know how and cannot get G3 to keep the helicopter to still when it takes off. If anyone can give me some tips advice on this let me know.

RE: G3 Hover Question

We have G2 and it's the same way, even with no wind the heli always wants to go off to one direction.

Ah, Ok. I wasn't exactly sure if it was just me or it was suppose to be doing it. I spent a hour or so trying to trim it not knowing. I never really flown my real one yet due to I think im not experience enough just yet. So I wasn't sure if its suppose to act like that or not. But thanks for feedback.

I have never really flew a real r/c heli just a sim. but as far as what I know (correct me if I'm wrong), your never going to hover without constant control corrections

RE: G3 Hover Question

rccrazedman is correct. Helicopters just don't hover by them selves. You may be able to get a hands off hover for a short period of time, but you will eventually need to correct it.

One of the biggest reasons just about all helicopters drift is because they have tail rotors. The tail rotor pushes the helicopter to the side as it tries to counter the main blade torque. This can be alleviated somewhat by counter-trimming the swashplate, but it can't be fully cured. The only way of fixing it, is by training your thumbs. [8D]

If you can hover and fly the helicopter around proficently in G3, you're probably ready for the real deal. A simulator, no matter how good, can't really prepare you for the real thing. Some people find the real thing easier, some harder. The point is, gaining real experience with your helicopter is the best way to learn. Not to say the simulator isn't good, becuase it definately is, but it should be used as a compliment to your growing real life skills, instead of trying to learn completely on the sim.

Thanks, Credence.

That information is very helpful. Although I do agree a sim cannot compare completly to real life, I have been meaning to get my helicopter ready and go fly I just havn't had extra money since I got to go buy a new Gyro  . But in the next few months I am probably going to start flying it for real. I have learned alot in the sim, cause when I first got it I couldn't even fly at all. I would take off and imediately crash :-) now I am good enough to at least take off and do some tricks and fly around then land without crashing. But I really do appreciate the information tells me a little more on how helicopters work.

If you bought a Raptor check in here and do some reading if you haven't already.

Alright I will do some reading there. I know this is a bit off topic from what I originally posted, but I havn't had time to call my LHS to see. But how much are most of you paying for a gallon of fuel ? I know when I bought my raptor about a yr or so ago it was $30 a gallon or something like that.

RE: G3 Hover Question

I pay about 18/gal for 20 percent Cool Power heli fuel.

RE: G3 Hover Question

Ah thats no so bad. I figured I call my LHS soon and ask, but I had read of people mixing there own I figure if it had got like 50 or 60 a gallon if so I was going to start mixing it lol. With gas prices these days its hard to tell what any fuel source cost .

I get 15% for $15.00

RE: G3 Hover Question

$30 sounds pretty steep... even for a gallon of 30%

Sawdust48.5 11-12-2005 10:58 AM

RE: G3 Hover Question

Raptor 30 doesn't need more than 15%
