Trying to start engine for first time in model, is this normal?
Hello,
I have tried starting my MDS 38 heli in the model today, first time trying to start it. I opened the main needle 2 - 2.5 turns as per the manual, and i did get the engine to fire for about 3 seconds then it died. My glow ignitor's battery was not charged well so i gave up till tomorrow. One thing i was not sure about though was that when I turned the engine over with the starter, the silencer was spitting a fair amount of fuel. Now, is this normal or is the needle open to much? Also, before i installed the engine into the model, i think i disturbed the idle needle as i thought it was the screw to take off the throttle arm, so not sure where to set this back to? Any help would be great!!! Thanks, Wayne. |
RE: Trying to start engine for first time in model, is this normal?
as far as the fuel, thats normal.
The idea for the first round of runs is to run the motor "filthy rich" ... basically as much fuel as you can give it without flooding the motor... |

Thanks for your reply,
OK, considering it fired, i'll keep the needle at the same setting (rich) and try again tomorrow. |
