Hovering has never been easier!

I'm not into helicopters but I was amazed by the new technology available for flight stabilization and positioning. Has anoyone of you chopper guys tried out the Robbe Helicommand?

This video shows the action: [link=http://www.robbe.com/video.php/de_play-mms.php?videofile=1-8493.wmv]Hovering[/link]

and here is the stabilizing unit: [link=http://de.robbe-online.net/rims_de.storefront/4482e7fa0010ab1e271b3e0dc1460667/UserTemplate/1/?ISID=4482e7fa0010ab1e271b3e0dc1460667]Helicommand[/link]

It seems it doesn't rely on neither GPS nor horizont sensing optical devices but rather on some kind of imaging device that scans the ground below. What's next?

bargain,,,only 349 euros,,,,,lol

i suppose it would be useful if it can hover the heli at a 100 mitres plus as then i might use it for aerial photography other then that i would just keep hovering my helis in the confessional manor..lol

Very smart piece of kit. A combination of a 3 axis gyro and a ground facing camera that measures the ground surface like an optical mouse.

Here the link for the pdf in English. http://data.robbe-online.net/robbe_p...101_1-8493.pdf

I don't think heli flying will get more interesting with it.
The field might get more crowded but I'm not waiting for robots reducing my flying area in the few minutes of flying time that I get each hour

It might be something if it would hold position more than a few meters above the ground. Even the pro version is only good to 10 meters. I would imagine most heli pilots are atleast able to hover at that height.:D

May help in learning to hover at different orientations??

Buy a good sim and a case of fuel. (or an extra battery if you're into electrics)

If you're not even touching the sticks, how does it help you to "learn". What are you "learning"?

Even in the simulators, you gotta move the sticks to learn.

Good Luck,

how does it help you to "learn
I beleive he's refering to the stabilizer saving him while he's learning to fly. My AP2000i save my Intrepid gasser from my dumb thumbs yesterday. The combination of sun and tree contributed to my near disaster. Easily corrected by letting go of the cyclic and adding collective to get back into view.

Now would I say it can teach a noob to fly. Probably not. You would have to have a compitent pilot set up a stabilizer for you to make sure it is trimmed properly. I have landed it under collective control only but I'm ready to take the control should the stabilizer be 'seeing' something that makes it drift a bit. Personally, I'd view the stabilizer as backup rather than a teaching tool. Of course, learning to hover is critical.
