RC Simulators
I have been thinking about getting a RC simulator and wanted to finde out wether or not it was worth the money, and if there are any other good simulators other than real flight.......is the G2 version better than the G2 lite? any help on this would be appreciated. thanks
|
Absolutely
A sim is worth there weight in gold. It will save you alot of money in the long run. When you crash you just start agean, with the real thing you call your hobby shop and get your check book out :D . That's just my opinion. I use the CSM V10,

I agree with Charlie, 'a sim is worth its weight in gold' if you are unsure then get FMS - its a free download from this site
http://n.ethz.ch/student/mmoeller/fms/index_e.html you can get a cable to use your transmitter as a controller and although the physics arn't perfect the graphics are good and you can decide if you want to put $ into a 'commercial' sim. I use it and have a really good Raptor model that I use to 'mess' with. hope this helps Nick |

Charlie and nickwap are on the pin point. A simulator WILL save you hundreds or thousand (or even millions!) of dollars. I use the Real Flight G2. It took me about a month and I learned how to hover in all orientations. After I thought I had masterd hovering, I started my Shuttle with training gear. I have flown about 70 flights and still have not crashed (I have neared many though). I'm now flying a Raptor 50. Would not be where I am without the simulator. The CSM simulator may fly better than the Real Flight, but it has poor graphics and must run in DOS. If you have a new computer you cannot run it.

I totally agree, never flown a plane or heli, bought real flight g2 sim, was on the sim daily for about a month before flying, started with training gear for only 2 flights and have been hovering and moving in foward flight with ease, there is no way to do that learning on your own without a sim, at least not that fast, I take my buddy's example as he went through his first crash after 3 flights since he started without a sim. I must say from experience & my opinion practice hovering on G2 sim and the real thing are 99.8% alike once you tune your g2 sim to the type of heli you have and correct weather conditions. I've even got flying inverted a few inches off the ground pretty down pack on the sim, now hopefully I can get a heli that can do that in real life :(

G2 is great! I had never flown a heli, but now with the help of G2, I have gone through a gallon of fuel with no problem. Felt natural from the very 1st flight.
As far as G2 vs G2 Lite, I've heard the Lite version doesn't have helis?? Not sure if that is true or not. |

I still use the Deluxe with a few add-ons. You can pick one up here on RCU very reasonable a RF-Realflight Deluxe-or the G2 Lite or the G2. I use my Sim most every day during these cold winter months to stay sharp on the sticks. My daughter has shown interest (she is 11) but is very good with video games. After about a month on the Sim, she is doing quite well. I might even buy her a heli later on....Worth their weight in gold---Yes
It helps hone your skills on maneuvers you would not want to try on your heli in the field until you get orientated better on more advanced maneuvers...using the Sim. realism is very good on Realflight as well as the grahics and adjustability is very adequate to. The CSM is very realistic but the graphics are not up with RF. But I used the older DBrown sims many years ago and it helped immensely to. Might save some $$...My first choice would be RealFlight..but you have the Dave Brown-CSM-FMS to. FMS is not bad for free if you might be on a budget till you could look into another.. |

Hi,
I have just downloaded FMS, and I think it’s great, BUT. How different to the other SIM's that you have to pay for? Is it the same in terms as remote control handling and getting to grips with landing and take off? Or would it pay to buy a SIM? Any help you be great on this subject, as I don’t have a RC yet and I am just using the keyboard and have XP, so I need to buy an add-on from what I have read, so I want to weigh up all the costs. Cheers Neil |

I now have a G2. Anyone remember the old ambrosia aerochopper? I still have that somewhere. I flew sim heli's with that for 4 years before I finally started flying my first actual heli, an LMH, and now my Rappy .30. Every crash I have had (too many to count on LMH and 2 with Rappy) was mechanical or engine related. Never by dumb thumbs. I relate this to all my use on the sim. Anywho, my 2 cents.

If you buy G2, you won't be disappointed. If you decide helis are not for you, you'll have no problem selling it. Just make sure you unregister it prior to selling it otherwise the buyer won't be able to use it.

I balked a bit at the price of G2. But the physics are fantastic, about my biggest grip is object collision is still pretty crappy, The Interlink controller is top quality for a joystick, though I still haven't found any use besides a simulator for it =) (Accept maybe winamp control) I'd say you're pretty decent off with FMS though, any simulator at all will help, G2 just looks better, and has better physics. But you're going to have to readjust to a new Helli in the real world anyways. So they all teach you good thumbs skills.

Can I use any TX for the SMS, I am not sure if mine is capable of doing that Please advise I have a futaba Skyport radio
what is this cable called and where can I find it does anyone here hace one to sell or trade |
RC Simulators
The controller that comes with the sim works just fine. I wouldn't even bother with all that. I mean heck you pay for it why not use it. It doesn't help to be using "your" controller. I thought it might so I could get the "feel" with my own controller, but it really doesn't apply.

I was thinking of using a free software and my rdaio TX with that cable that you mentioned
This way i'd woulod save a bit of money will this work I dont know , You tell me |
RC Simulators
Can I use any TX for the SMS If you go to the FMS page http://n.ethz.ch/student/mmoeller/fms/index_e.html and check the 'LINKS' link on the navibar they have a list of people who make the cables I paid GBP £5 for a JR cable from a guy in the UK and that is way cheep. There is an excellent Raptor model on raptortechnique's web site for FMS Hope this helps Nick :) |
A Good Deal On G2 ?
Hello,
A friend of mine has just said he will sell me Realflight G2 coz he no longer uses it and he will do me a good deal :-) Thing is there is no TX with it as he stood on it and broke all the sticks :-( So can i use my JR TX with it? And if so is it just a case of getting the right lead? Cheers Neil BTW he said I could have it for £25 ! |
RC Simulators
Even if he broke the interlink box it should still function as an interface to your radio, just make sure to take the crystal or RF module out before using it on the simulator.
|
RC Simulators
Thanks Lynx,
But he threw out the TX -- (Dumb Ass) All he has is the program! Is it still poss to connect my JR347 to Realflight? If not I will tell him to throw out the rest of it ! LOL Cheers Neil |
RC Simulators
so what you have is effectively a warez copy with no interface or tx...
you are out of luck... |
RC Simulators
As long as you still have the serial number for the CD you're fine and can still use it. But I'm not sure how to hook your TX up to it without the interlink box. Not even sure if you can.

RC Simulators
Thanks for the SMART comment Galifrey !!!!
If only it were that easy! I wouldn’t even bother to D/L the contents of a CD when I only get a 28.8 connection???? Takes me long enough to view these pages let alone to D/L programs! Thanks for the constructive reply Lynx! I will tell him to stuff it. I can’t believe he just chucked it out! Never mind! Thanks Neil |
RC Simulators
The key word in the above statement was "effectively" not actually...
ie, the program you have is as much use as a warez copy.... useless... I never said you downloaded it, and am not psychic regarding your internet connection either... Your only hope is to contact great planes and ask them if they will sell you an interlink connector... Assuming your pc supports USB ;) PS I got a spare 56k modem lying around if you'd like it... Win98 only though, no xp drivers for it... |
RC Simulators
Thanks for the offer for the 56k, but where I live the BT split the phone lines into two! So even with my 56k modem the max I can get is 28.8
I think I will just forget the whole idea, it would probably cost just as much to buy the interlink box as it would to buy the thing new! also: Effectively – Definitions of: in effect in fact in actual fact in point of fact actually really for practical purposes to all intents and purposes. Cheers Neil |
