starting problem???
ok, I have a old helicopter that i just rebuilt but kept same engine (O.S 61 2 stroke). The engine in there right now i have never attempted to start until yesterday when i found out that the starter cone on the top of the engine where you would put a hex shaft into to start it is solid( no hole for shaft). So i tried my torque starter 90 and the starter cone doesnt grasp the cone on the engine and it wont turn it over at all when it is "TDC", but i can turn it over fairly easy with my hand, and i dont know if the engine is fairly new with lots of compression or if it is old. So my question to you all is how do i start this thing?

RE: starting problem???
Is it a cone start or does it just look like a rod sticking up? If its just a rod then you probably need something like the TNT starter shaft but make sure before you go buy something. I'd just find out the start shaft OD, find a 6mm hex start coupler thats compatible, and convert it to hex start.
Do you have a picture or info on what kind of heli we are talking about here? |
RE: starting problem???
those old black head OS .61s where ard to start, I used to loosen the glow plug and put the glow starter on it, start it and then screw the plug back in.....

RE: starting problem???
yeah it has alot of compression, but the top of the shaft where you would put something on it to start looks like a smaller aluminum version of a spinner off of a airplane. It has a hole in the top of it but nothing like a hex or something in it. And i cant get the spinner of the shaft its self because when i got it the small allen is stripped out. does anyone know how i can get that out?
