In the last week I have removed my training gear and started doing some figure 8's, flew 3 tanks yesterday had pretty good form too, had the tail following the flight path all pretty like. I was on my third and final tank today, still doing good and then came a big gust of wind and then.......................

Oh, bugger! Sorry to see that, man.

Don't let it get you down though. I was simply trimming out a new gyro the other day when my reciever battery dropped straight out the front of my Venture 30 and disconnected. Little guy ran square into my house :)

If you think of it, I'd be curious to hear the total $ of the damage.

On a side note, is that a G500T gyro? If so, what do you think of it?

Yes, the gyro is a G500T and I like it alot. Locks the tail in great!!!! When I order all the repair parts I will put the $$$ amount on this thread..........BTW thats too bad about your receiver battery, I'm sure it was gut wrenching to watch eject itself out of the heli. Otherwise not too worried about the crash, everyone does it and I'll get her up again.............just thought I would share some pics, have more if anyone is interested.

I've been looking at the 500T for a while, but it's hard to find anyone that's not using the GY401.

I ask the dollar mount because I just purchased my Venture 30 from a local fellow and I expect (though I've been very fortunate with my little REX 450SE) that I'll see some crashes just like yours about the same time as I flip it upside down and realize, "boy, this isn't flying like my REX at all" ;)

P.S. Yeah, that rx battery deal was a bad thing, heh. I just saw this little red thing drop out the front, and as soon as I realized what it was, it also struck me what that meant. Of course, I tried the sticks just out of foolish hope, but all I could do was watch it bank hard left and smash into the East wall of my house.

How close to the ground were you. I was flying at my field when the winds were excess of 30mph last week. In FF i had no ill effects but close to the ground and in hover it was tough. I didn't spend any time near the ground that day. When i cam into land it was very quick!

I was about 3 feet off the ground just getting ready to land. A gust of wind came by and popped the heli up. I compensated for that and then a 35-40 mph cross wind hit the heli broad side. Needless to say it pretty much hit the ground on its side and beat itself to death.[:o]

I had a Venture 30 before I purchased my Raptor 30 v2. The reason I opted for the R30 after 4 months with the Venture was the repair cost and wait time to get parts. The LHS stocks R30 parts and repair cost are less expensive. A small tail rotor strike on the ground cost me $75.

The part I like most about the hobby is fixing and wrenching on the heli. Even the best pilots crash, so that puts you in elite company. :-)

Isn't that the truth. I was actually discouraged when I went to E-Fest this year and saw some of the best out there destroying helicopters. I figured these guys would work wonders and never scuff a blade, but it simply was not the case.

It happens to all of us, I guess. It's just a matter of limiting the frequency while still making progress.

Don't you think is funny how "THE LAST TANK" of the day when evrything goes bad! I got to the point where I don't fly the last tank. I just fly couple of times and then just put it up.. Don't even think about "this is the last tank".

I am starting to wonder if is a mental state thing or just "MURPHY"S LAW"...

Any mad scientists want to do any reaserch on this phenomenon?

Nah, sometimes its the last tank of the day because its the last tank of the day. You can't pick up a crashed heli and make it fly again without taking it home and doing some repairs. Pilot's "last tank of the day" might not have been the last tank of the day if they hadn't crashed. They might have gone up a couple more times after that. But, they crashed, so it was their last tank of the day. Thats the way i look at it anyways. Then you have the last tank of the day that really is last tank of the day... dont crash!

Well, it's pretty well decided that I'm buying it from him. I've had it now for a couple of weeks, but it's required so much tuning (not the heli's fault) that I've barely flown it. Of course, the time I did try, I learned an important lesson about Rx batteries :)

My opinions are a little torn on it so far. It's hard to go from a REX 450SE to something like a Venture 30, but I think it will grow on me. I mostly need to get over the size difference and try to fly it like I do the REX - it's just so bloomin' big in comparison. I should clarify that: I have flown Bergins on several occassions, so I realize the Venture is not as big as they get, but it is rather large when I started looking at it as something I would put upside down.

Anyhow, it's a nice helicopter and well made. It's easy to work on and the parts are affordable. I can't say anything to the 3D performance difference between it and a Raptor 30 (as I hear the Raptor is lighter/more agile), but I think it will do me just fine until I'm ready to start trying hurricanes, piro-flips, and the alike.

depending on what pinion you use in your trex 450SE, you might find the Venture to be easier to bog the head. 30 sized helis are on the low end of the power scale. But they're awesome in that they don't use as much fuel and if you manage your collective/cyclic well they can do a suprising amount of moves. And the tability/size of the heli will be a real plus.

Ouch dude! Bringing any of your buddies up for the fly in? If you dont get it up and running by then bring it and the parts with you, most stuff on a Raptor I can fix in under an hour or so and I'll be stuck at the sign in/impound desk so its not like I'll have much better to do.

i know this isnt the place to ask but i will shoot anyway i saw this stunt where the helicopter was kind of hovering verticle with the tail to the ground and nose to the air, i was wondering how that was possible, the heli was a rapoter 90 if that makes any difference.

Yeah, the big thing has been getting it setup right. There were issues a mile long with this thing - the result of an owner that didn't know enough at the time and lost interest before he did know complicated by two years of dust and neglect. :)

I'll have the parts to get it up again tomorrow or Thursday and I hope to get a real feel for Nitro at that point. Honestly, I've flown 3 Bergins, 1 JR Gasser (Vigor GS), and this Nitro, and I really haven't been that impressed relative to my REX 450SE. I think it's mostly a setup thing and the fact that all of his setups are PPM with analog servos vs. my PCM and Digital. I'll give it another shot though.

Helicopters cant hover nose up. It may have been doing a funnel or tic toc but it wasn't hovering.

If I had to guess, I would assume he was refering to some of the things I've seen Jason Krause (and others) do where, in between tic-tocs, he manipulates pitch and inertia to make the helicopter appear (for ever so brief a period) as though it could sit there sideways or nose-up for as long as he pleases.

Just like the rabbit in a hat, however, it's an illusion.
