Does anyone knows what is a governor? Thanks

It monitors your engine RPM to keep a constant head speed. Basically, you plug your throttle servo into a governor and plug that into the throttle channel of your reciever. It has another plug that goes to a channel in the reciever so you can turn it on and off. They all have different functions but basically you program it for the head speed you want to maintain and when you turn it on it controls your throttle servo. As you work the collective it will operate the throttle to help keep you from bogging or over reving your blades.

the way i had it explained to me was it is like cruise controll on a car, the govener will hold the head speed on a heli constant so there is no need to set up throttle curves it just makes it easyier.

say if you are doing a seiries of 3d tricks and the head speed starts to bog, with throttle curves they wont increase the throttle anymore, with a govenour it will increase untill the motor hits its maximum power and when you come out of the trick it will then decrease the throttle so the head speed dosent go to quick.

That is a common misconception. What happens if your governor decides to quit while you are in a low inverted hover?

There is less than 2mm separating a magnet spinning at 17000 rpms and a little plastic sensor that tells the governor what to do. If for any reason the fan vibrates the wrong way, the magnet moves, or some debris is caught between the fan and the sensor, is bye-bye sensor. [&o]

Everybody needs to learn to set up throttle curves. If the governor decides to take a crap on you, you still have the throttle curves to back you up and not go home carrying a trash bag full of helicopter pieces.

I am having difficulties setting up my thundertiger alpha governor to my 9z can anyone help

I dont know much about them, but i did read an article in rotorworld magazine about it and they didn't like the governor. They said it was slow. Thats all i can really recall them saying about it. I have no personal experince with them. Most guys use the Revlock, Throttle Jockey, GV1, and a few others i am leaving out. You are the first i have heard to use thunder tiger's governor.

Give me (and others reading) more information about your problem. We may still be able to help. We need details like, what kind of heli are you setting it up on? What kind of engine? What kind of receiver? How many channels? What all have you done so far? Can you tell us what is giving you the problem, such as, does it even turn on? Are you sure you have it plugged into the right channels? That shoud get us thinking about how we can help you.

I personally think the governor works well in my Raptor 50 using my 9CAP radio. But then the 9C has a governor function under the advanced heli menu wich allows you not only to set you percentages for normal, idle 1, & 2 but it lets you assign to any switch you want (i.e. idle up switch).

My problem with the 9Z is that although i was able to assign the remote channel (on-off) to my idle up switch using the function menu. I cannot set any kind of headspeed percentages for each switch position. (i.e. normal=off, idle1= 72%, idle2= 77%). I understand that each switch position corresponds with a different "condition" I have tried to set values using both the AFR and ATV functions and only have been successful programing idle up 2 by setting position B on the curve for aux 1 to 72 percent.

however when i try to set Idle up 1 the same way on that particular condition it does not respond to the percentages. Another words the governor appears to be in the unlocked mode when the switch is in normal mode this is good. flip the switch to idle 1 nothing happends. flip to idle 2 i get a series of blinks from the governor indicating that it is set to the engine rpm desired wich in turn controls desired headspeed.

Sorry Santonomos, but i will be of no help to you. I have never used a futaba radio before, so I am not familiar with their setup.

I think you might have to use a program mix to program the percentage back to itself. Give Futaba a call they have people to work with you on these things...

yea I called futaba [&o] They said since they don't support the thunder tiger component they can't help.They brushed me off to their FAQ page on their website on how to set up a gv-1 my. little sister can set up a gv-1!
