Which Heli?

Hi,

ive been flying a venom night ranger 2 for about a year now so im looking to get a better electric.

Ive been looking at the walkera 68b and also the T-REX 450SE V2.

Although the T-REX 450SE V2 looks better i can't see much difference between them other than pricing which is quite different.

Does anyone have any suggestions or even different helis which are priced cheaper but are also good?

thanks

Ian

RE: Which Heli?

go with the Trex I would say. It might cost more, but it will be worth it.

That walkera will be nothing but a headache. The main reasons being that they are not supported in any LHS that I have ever seen, so parts are not as available, and the parts you do get you'll have to tack on shipping. Also the electronics in them are definately sub par, and you'll end up replacing them all, probably after a big dump that ruins alot of parts, or close to the beginning, but either way it's gona be a major expense.

Really I wouldn't short cut. If there is one thing I've learned about short cutting is that you'll have to pay for it later. Just get the nice Trex, and pay a little more for it, and be proud of what you have =) That would be my advice.

You've maybe already decided, but I just want to second the vote for a REX. I used to hate my little Blade CP Pro, but I haven't looked back since I got my 450SE.

Good luck!

If cost is a concern, a buddy of mine flies the TREX 450SA and I've been very impressed by that. You do typically have a few more broken parts in a crash, but otherwise it's fairly comparable - at least at the basic 3D level, I can't say how it handles piro flips, etc. in comparison.

Just a thought,

I've said this before, and I'll say it again....

There is a reason for the price difference between the TRex and its competitors, and there is a reason why Align doesn't bring the price down. The answer: Quality and performance.

Won't go into much more details. I'll leave it out there.

Trex SE, it's worth the money. It flys awesome, holds up well in a crash, parts are cheap and avaliable everywhere.

RE: Which Heli?

which is best, the 450 v2 or the 600 ?

badazzbusa 07-09-2007 10:53 AM

RE: Which Heli?

They both are good. Depends on the size you want and your budget. Bigger flys better but cost alot more to build and repair cost are higher. Where are you flying? A 600 is quite larger and you need a much bigger area to fly safely. After you answer those questions, get the one that suits your needs most and you'll be happy. You can't go wrong with either one.

I live in a rural area so space isn't an issue :)

RE: Which Heli?

Let me get this straight, you have experience with a venom knight ranger, and you are already asking for a TRex 600?

The TRex 600 is the size of a regular 50 sized nitro helicopter. Although I'm not questioning your skills, you might consider getting in contact with another pilot to help you set it up and get it flying. The 600 and even the 450 are no-where near the venom helicopter that you have now.

Can I ask what made you change your mind so quickly from a 450 to a 600?

RE: Which Heli?

Yes, like stated above, setup is the key, but if you can fly a 450 or was going to get one to try, you can fly a 600 (or try). One is not any harder to fly than the other. The 600 will even be more stable but a screw up is going to cost more.

Hi,

i have had a nexus 30 since 2002, i stopped for some time until last year when i thought id get an electric so i could pratice again without screwing up my nitro and so i could hop over the fence without having to go down the road in my car with the noisy nexus :)

now im looking to change the venom with a better 6ch one so i can into it more again without having to go out in the car until im up to speed.

thanks

If noise is an issue, then space is an issue too, by default. If you are close enough to somebody that is going to be bothered by a noisy nitro, then space is limited.

I do not recommend a 600 in such a space. A 450 is more manageable. The suggestion to get in contact with an experienced pilot still stands if you want to learn faster.

The 600 is an amazing helicopter, but safety takes priority over stability if you don't have proper room.

no space isn't an issue, I live in a row of houses next to a huge field, however the noise of the nexus can be heard from quite far away and also attracts kids to watch :)

Ive thought about it somewhat anyway and have decided to get a 450.

How big are they in comparison to the nexus 30?

thanksa

RE: Which Heli?

Notably smaller. The blade span is about 32" if I recall. 325mm blades as opposed to 450mm (?) on the Nexus.

RE: Which Heli?

I think you'll be thrilled by it. Just make sure you get the setup right the first time and it should continue to behave itself. Also, I think it's safe to recommend "Finless" Bob White's build videos. I believe HeliFreak.com hosts them. They take you through most everything and are recommended viewing even before you get your heli.

Good luck!

RE: Which Heli?

Heh. No, no, and "heck no". You get just the heli, motor, and ESC. This isn't RTF. You still need batteries, charger, TX, RX, servos, and gyro. For my $.02, I'd highly recommend the DX7 with the oh-so-cliche HS-65's on cyclic, a JR DS3400 on the tail, a Logictech 2100t gyro, FMA Cellpro 4S Charger, and Cellpro Revolution 11.1 2100mah 18C batteries.

But, again, this is merely my $.02

which HS65s would you recommend?

i can see HS65HB and HS65MG, so i need 5 of these and a JR DS3400 on the rudder?

I've been hearing reports that the MG hold up better than the HB. The MG have metal gears and the HB have karbonite (SP?) gears.

You only need 3-65s and one tail servo on a TRex 450. The trottle ins controlled by the Speed Control.
