Nose-in hover!!!
 

Hi All,

OK, so it's not earth shattering news to many of you, but do try to remember when it was you...I have been flying since July, and today the TRex 450S made history in my driveway. A little squirely at first but actually got in a real honest to goodness 45 second hover 5- 6' in front of me, even if it was all in ground effect. My knees were shaking so bad I had to land. Then I walked around and hovered tail-in and right away noticed how smooth and steady everything was. So now I have to master nose-in like I do tail-in. Couple months I guess.

Congrats! It always feels good when you do somthing like that for the first time. Dont let them nevers get to you though, thats one of the hardest things to overcome, but once you are completly relaxed you can truly begin to enjoy flying.

Keep it up! Being able to hover in all orientations will help immensely when you progress further into figure 8s, loops and rolls. Take it slow and go at your own speed. Trying new things before you are ready is a sure way to drop some cash at the LHS. I just did my first loops and rolls last Saturday with my 450 V2. I have been flying since March and the T-Rex since July. I get those same shakes every time I try something new!

I have the nose and tail down reall good on a simulator. Was hovering around okay until the AXE simply broke apart in mid air. So, I'm waiting on another. To kill time, I'm working on hovering sideways and any other direction,

We are probably pretty close on the sticks Dave_E. I have been working on the nose in alot lately and it really is crazy how stable I can keep everything tail and side in as opposed to nose in.

I started with some altitude by spinning the nose toward me and rocking the stick back and forth to get a bit more comfortable. The whole heli going left push right and heli going right push left idea has helped me out a good bit.

I have been bringing it down and am getting pretty good but I am definitely not comfortable with it fully. I find that I am more confident turning to nose in from one direction as opposed to the other, I can see how a sim would be very helpful here.

I get the same shakes even, especially when something halfway goes awry and I am forced to recover. I have three lipos atm and its usually about halfway through the second pack before I really get settled in which sucks because that is when I fly the best

The shakes are inherent to anyone who's still got the fear of crashing. It's funny - One day my shakes were just gone. I used to watch the rotor disc when learning inverted hovering - it helped to have one thing to key off of. Once you try it a few times, it gets easier. You have to continue practicing it after you have it though, or you can loose it. I was landing nose in a few weeks ago and now it seems I've lost it - I'll have to get back on that. Congrats on nose-in and keep it goin!

just curious my Rc - fellow dudes and dudettes - when did you remove your training gear? .... i got a really good flight in yesterday and for the first had the guts to hover 5-6 feet off the ground .... still have my training gear on .... not sure when i will have the guts to remove them [sm=omg_smile.gif]

I actually just removed mine last week. Once you get good with landings and takeoffs and you are hovering above a few feet without incidents you are probably good to remove it.

I had it on for too long. The last two packs I flew before removing it I practiced up good on t/o's and landings then snipped it off. The heli flies better without it but I am noticing how much I was looking at the balls for determining orientation.

Once you are proficient in a hover you should probably ditch it.

I never used training gear at all. It's a shame though - I could of saved a lot of money I'm sure. Damned Cp pro...they charge wayyyy too much for those main blades in the first place.

I had a CX and used the training gear for like an hour and ditched it, worked good though, once I had the heli up about 6-7' in the air and the motors cut out, just plops down on the ground no prob, yeah, didn't do that many packs before I decided, forget it, making it to unstable, later that day, I broke my first lower blade[:o], sold it a while later, got into cars:D

well gents i done did it!!!! [>:]

got out yesterday - beautiful day in the good ol' country of texas :) .... took a flight - got some good altitude - about a good 10-12 feet. then landed and did (what for me was the unthinkable) ..... i took my training gear off [sm=eek.gif] ..... wellllllllllllllllllllllllllllll ....LOVED IT!

she flew like a charm ... cant lie at first i saw dollar signs in the air - but then got a little bolder and must say - what a rush! [sm=punching.gif]
