Winter Flying?
Whenever I fly my T-rex outside the servos act a little weird. It's only about -5 out right now. Does anyone know if there are any servos out there that can handle the cold better, or should I just stick with flying indoors and not fly outside in the cold at all.
I had a blade CP Pro that flew fine in the winter. Thanks in advance, Kurt10. |
RE: Winter Flying?
what servos are you using on the trex? I fly outdoors as well and i always let the heli sit outside for a few minutes (battery inside) until I'm ready to fly. it's the temperature change that screws things up.

RE: Winter Flying?
I use the eflite (same as DX6) s75 servos.

RE: Winter Flying?
I've flown down to about 10F and 10 knot winds with HS65MG servos on the cyclic and futaba 9650 on the tail with no problems. Aren't those servos a little underpowered?

RE: Winter Flying?
I should also mention that the ball links tighten up in the cold making the swash seem sluggish and slower than normal.

RE: Winter Flying?
Try a little silicone spay on the parts to keep the ice from forming on the balls and links. Remember -5 plus the windchill from the spinning around at 70mph or more could easily freeze up the head.

RE: Winter Flying?
How do you mount the HS65MG servos on the t-rex (or maybe jsut the se v2), because there is only one hole (in the centre) and the HS65MG servo has 2 holes on each side. Do you just drill another 2 holes?
Thanks, Kurt10 |
RE: Winter Flying?
I don't know if they changed or if mine came with 3 holes or if I drilled them out, but mine have the 3rd hole in the center which is where it is mounted.

RE: Winter Flying?
Mine have three holes in the tabs too.

RE: Winter Flying?
I just drilled mine in the center. I set up a heli for someone with those s75's and there is no way I'd use them in or reccomend them for a 450
I hate winter flying around here, I have to wear a long sleeve shirt :D |

RE: Winter Flying?
The new DS75 servos are much better than the older version. The have excelent servo arms, ball bearings and finer splines on the output gear to eliminate slop in the servo arm. Are they enough for a 400 sized heli????
I am not the one to judge that but if there were very serious problems they would have come out during the proto type trials I would hope. BCH are you doing a review on the e-flite Blade 400 or is anyone doing one for RCU? I wouldn't trade my Mini Titan for one but with a spektrum 6ch radio for $450 ish I think the Blade 400 is a heck of a deal for a beginner! <--- off topic sry D |
RE: Winter Flying?
If they send me one.
The next electric heli review will be this one .... http://www.beamheliusa.com/ |
