Need help! setting up a sim.

Hi everyone. I am thinking about getting into Heli's, but I want to try out the basics on a sim to see if I am cut out for it. I have FMS and would like to know if it is good enough to practise on, or should I spring for one of the "pro" sims? Also, I know nothing about what stick controls what, so could somebody give me an idea? I am gonna use a dual stick joystick untill I can get a transmitter set up going and get serious. So what function do I assign to each stick? Thanks in advance!

Hello,

The FMS is great to start out with. It will do fine for quite a while for you.

On the left stick:

Forward and back on a helicopter, back towards you is low throttle with low or negative pitch on the blades. Away from you towards the top increases throttle and gives the blades positive pitch.

Right or left controls the tail rotor(rudder control) Left moves the nose of the heli to the left and right moves it to the right as if you were sitting in it.

Right stick.

Forward and back is elevator or for/aft cyclic pitch. Away from you tips the nose down and back towards you tips the nose up.

Left and right is aileron control. Move it to the left and the heli will tilt left and move that direction and right and it will move to the right. Again as if you were sitting in it.

Thanks Scott!
That will help a bunch. Will see if I can pick up the hang of it before I drop alot of $$ money into a new heli.
